| 745414 | 2009-02-06 03:25:00 | hi guys i am back with some problems, and i need ur opinion urgently. my internet is working fine now but today suddenly i noticed there was no dial tone on my phone. so i opened up the little black box near one of my phone jack ( i think the black unit is where my main line comes through) well i loosend contacts and tightened them and got dial tone but it seems that when i put the phone down it doesnt disconnect. to test i called 123 and as soon as i heard the lady i hungup and when i again picked up the phone the lady was still speaking. all my other phones are disconnected. wat should i do?... my ph jack looks like this i42.tinypic.com |

I think they may have what's called "manual hold", in which case nobody can get away until they let you go. Ring your work number - presumably no-one will answer, but you should be able to hang up and then get dial tone again. |

| 745416 | 2009-02-06 04:05:00 | Try unplugging all your phones for 10 minutes and then reconnect them. If the problem continues and try unplugging each phone one by one. You may have a faulty phone. | Jen (38) | ||

Not to mention that setting that as the default is illegal anyway, as it can prevent using the phone to call emergency services. |

| 745422 | 2009-02-07 10:57:00 | faulty hook switch or assosciated circuitry. in the bad old days the hook switch bypassed the ringer capacitor and connected the handpiece circuitry to the line most modern phones usually have various electronics to use common components instead of 500 ohm speakers and carbon mics. | williamF (115) | ||
| 745423 | 2009-02-07 20:41:00 | How about this? Your dial-up IRQ is messed up and your sound card is taking control and holding the phone circuit. I had this happen, although it was here in the States, but I wanted to highlight this as a possibility. Sometimes two devices use the same IRQ and the system gets askew. |
