746937 2009-02-11 18:36:00 Hi Guys

Today the NZ dollar is worth Australian $ .80 (roughly)

Does anyone know what the variations have been over the last few years ?

Eg what is the highest it has been and the lowest ?

746941 2009-02-11 20:41:00 When I worked in Aussie 77 to 80 a couple of times it was exactly dollar for dollar. Never seen it like that since. Bantu (52)
746942 2009-02-11 21:08:00 I remember when shops wouldn't take a Aussie 2 shilling piece as it was worth quite a bit less than the NZ 2 shilling.

But then, that is showing my age :p

IIRC, around about the same time the USD was dollar for dollar with the NZD, the Canadian dollar was worth about NZD1.15, the FJD was worth about NZD1.40. And the JPY - you needed several hundred yen to buy a NZD!!!

Oh how times have changed!!!

(I was working for a bank at the time - when there were only four banks in New Zealand: ANZ, BNZ, Bank Of New South Wales and National. And you had to fill in Reserve Bank forms to purchase - or sell - foreign currency)

Gee in the late 60's you had to have overseas funds to buy a car. And you had to buy British Postal notes of 1 pound at a time, to be able to buy anything from overseas.

But they said NZ was rich then ! (I never believed them)

That is right. Just think what a litre of petrol would cost today, had the cross rate stayed at that!

Ken

PS And you got 960 Jaffas for a quid - at 4 for 1 penny. ($2)
