746494 2009-02-10 08:27:00 At work we changed to vodafone from telecom for our phone & broadband. Even though it's now got supposedly double the download speed (15 Kbps compared to 8) it's slower at loading webpages than xtra, downloading files is still a crawl.I thought xtra's helpdesk was bad. Have you tried to talk to a vodafone human? Current waiting time 15 minutes. It doesn't matter what time I ring, the wait is for an eternity. It might be worth the $200 penalty to dump them.

Anyone else with vodafone and a snail pace adsl2 connection?

I have heard similar stories about their support for their broadband. My brother signed up last year, when they were offering 'free braodband' and he is going to switch once their contract is up. Isn't their support all outsourced to Egypt these days too? I just don't think they have the amount of staff to service their customers. At least you don't have to pay $1 to talk to someone to report billing problems, like you do with their prepay cusomters.

The problem is, that the alternatives aren't much better, I'm with Xnet, and they have dropped the ball this last year. I think Xtra and Orcon are OK, but it appears ISPs service overall is universally not good.

We signed up while it was till IHUG a while back. They used to regularly have this problem where they wrongly showed that you had gone over your datacap. You had to wait a veeery long time on the phone to get through to them. They usually corrected it without a fight though.

I havent had to call them since it moved to Vodafone, but have heard people at work complaining that Vodafone are now making IRD look good!

Our plain old ADSL plan (not ADSL2) speed tests at 128kbps up and 6000kbps down.:banana So I am not complaining. Does slow down a bit at peak times.

Are the speeds you quote from one of the web based ADSL speed tests? Do you have some sort of DNS issue. Are yo sure when you are testing it that no-one else is using the internet connection?

746497 2009-02-11 01:11:00 Out of the frying pan and into the fire mate. :( Vodafone are HOPELESS, however you have some serious issues if you're only getting 15kbps, thats unlikely to be Vodafone's fault. Check in your ADSL Router and see what line speed you're getting.

What do you get on a test to auckland at www.speedtest.net ? If its under 500kbps disconect everything apart from one PC and try it from that PC incase a PC is flooding the network.

Telstra Clear and Orcon seem to be the two best ISPs at the moment, Telecom (not Xtra anymore) are a lot better than they were.

I'd steer well clear of Vodafone. Xnet are ok if you only use them during the day (fine for a work enviroment).

746498 2009-02-11 07:24:00 I use Orcon at home & apart from the odd time I can't complain about the speed, the service is good too. They only send me a polite reminder when I forget to pay the bill & that happens regularly with anyone that sends me a bill via email. I can't get adsl2 at home as I'm connected to a fibre cabinet which "apparantly" don't have to be unbundled.

The speed I quoted for vodafone is 15800Kbps (approx) down & 160Kbps up. At home with Orcon it's 8128Kbps down & 160Kbps up. That's from the routers status pages, I just abbreviated it. I could stand outside at work & almost throw a stone far enough to hit the exchange. The only reason I changed to vodafone was Telecom's landline to mobile charges are double what vodafone charge. That's a big difference, approx $140 per month.

I can't get into my vodafone webmail & I can't contact anyone to sort it. I can't find anowhere on their site where my landline & broadband login is. It's driving me nuts.
I may just bite the bullet & start looking again.
