745734 2009-02-07 19:53:00 1) How do you survive in Melbourne when it gets to 46 degrees?

2) How hot will it get today with the aussie heatwave conditions heading for NZ?

Hard to say......mate of mine presently lives in Melbourne.

He's also lived in ChCh during their summers, and Akl in summertime with their humidity.

He reckons 43C in Melbourne is better coz whilst it's hot, there isn't the sticky mugginess....'dry' heat he reckons.

Sounds like bollocks to me!.....43C has gotta be nasty.

I'd be inclined to agree with him, going from tokoroa to tauranga you can certainly feel the extra mugginess. Gets a bit too hot and you really feel it, likewise a cool breeze pops up that is not cold but it makes you shiver :dogeye:

The record for the hottest temp recorded in NZ has been tipped to be broken today, I wonder if it will...?

745741 2009-02-07 23:23:00 It's only 27 here in West Auckland. Or at least where I am. Just to remind you guys who have pets - remember they're not chained up somewhere super hot. Neighbor forgot to let the dog out from the car for 5 minutes. Poor girl is now at the vets suffering a heatstroke. qazwsxokmijn (102)
745742 2009-02-07 23:37:00 humidity effects people in a big way. i know guys in aussie that get 40 degrees every year. its not that bad. going from a few comments of a few guys over there the worse thing is everything in the sun gets boiling hot. you burn yourself if you leave the tools in the sun. electronics overheat and blow up.

30degrees in +70% humidity is worse than 43% in 5%.
it would have been 30 degrees and 90-100% humidity a few days ago. that gets bad quick as you can't cool down.

its funny, heaps of pics on tv about 43 degrree heat in assie showing people sun bathing at the beach !
