848784 2010-01-14 18:11:00 Family of mine got a problem with their laptop running Vista - can't connect to the wireless modem and can't print wirelessly (Could do it a few weeks ago).

Last night I had a look to see if I could see something wrong, but I'm not so clued up on Vista - would you guys direct me to a site for general problems on Vista please.

Got no idea what brand of laptop and no idea of RAM or processor (forgot to check).

848786 2010-01-14 23:55:00 I think I've seen this kind of trouble before, on SWMBO's old lappie. Does Vista suffer from the same Winsock troubles as XP?

848789 2010-01-18 18:39:00 So I checked the laptop yesterday again. I thought it could be the Winsock, but it seemed not to be the problem. I did notice though that when you search for a network, Vista barely do a search when it comes back and say nothing has been found. Quite puzzling, I've checked everything known to man.

Compaq Presario C700 Notebook
Celeron 560 @ 2.13 GHz
1 Gig Ram
Vista Home Basic fully updated.
Basic problem : the Laptop could connected to the wireless modem (and printed wirelessly) until about two weeks ago. No changes, no installations, nothing has changed.

Any further ideas would be really appreciated. I also wonder whether I shouldn't point this guy to one of our local PF1'ers.

848791 2010-01-19 05:36:00 This works every time with the Asus Eee 701, may work with yours.

Power Off
Remove the charger.
Remove any other cables.
Remove the battery.
Make a cup of coffee.
Replace the battery.
Refit the cables.
Boot.

With any luck it might go on line!
