| 746834 | 2009-02-11 23:53:00 | The Maori of today are paying for the people of yesterday. They are not equal partners in this country as they were promised they would be. That's what the settlements are about. And the Crown is a continuing entity - it doesn't just stop every thirty years or whatever, or at a change of government. It was the Crown that made the promises to Maori - and the current government (ie: the cabinet in counsel with the Governer General - the Monarch's representative) is the Crown. So another billion will correct this? |

| 746836 | 2009-02-11 23:58:00 | Actually, Solmeister, National has been very supportive of the Waitangi Tribunal since Jim Bolger and Doug Kidd. Both men were quite moved by what they learned about the Crown's history of abuses when they both started in their portfolios. | Deane F (8204) | ||
| 746837 | 2009-02-12 00:06:00 | Two reasons, Do gooders rule (Deano and his ilk) Cunning rules over reason. Yep - do-gooders rule Cicero. Why don't you start a political party of your own? Maybe because your radical ideas don't actually have much support - as shown by the results of successive elections...? |

| 746838 | 2009-02-12 00:10:00 | Yes that is right National set up the Waitangi Tribunal and Doug Graham was the minister put in charge of the negotiations. Hon D.A.M. Graham was appointed Minister of Justice, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Minister for Disarmament and Arms Control in November 1990. In 1991 he was appointed Minister in Charge of Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations on behalf of the Crown, and was reappointed to all positions in November 1993. In 1995 he was appointed Minister for Courts to reflect the establishment of the new Department for Courts on 1 July 1995 :) |
