848545 2010-01-14 07:12:00 so the 4850 or the 8800gts 512mb are the best, is there any other cheap gpu's that are good for gaming that i could keep an eye out for? thanks for all the help

also whats the max i should pay for a good quality 8800gts 512mb thanks

Imo maybe up to $100 for a decent 2nd hand one for the 8800GTS, i doubt youll find one for that.

The G92 8800GTS is still a half decent card around 20% slower than the 4850.

Really new "entry gaming cards" start around $170 ish mark, 4850, 4770 then $200 ish for the GTS250 or 9800GT, but ATi is the better buy atm

If you try cutting a few dollars below these you'll just be disappointed.

848548 2010-01-14 21:27:00 If you can get a 4850 for under $120, great. As pointed out, they're not an awful lot more than that new (which may be an option?). Or, if you can get an 8800GTS 512MB (NOT the 320 or 640MB versions, they're terribly outdated) for $100 or under, that'd do. It performs almost as well as the 4850 in pretty much any current game, so it's certainly not outclassed. But, the 4850 is a little better, so comparing the two, if they're the same or very similar price, I'd go 4850. For more than, say, a $20 difference, on a tight budget, the 8800GTS should do fine.

I'm still using an 8800GT 512MB and having no problems playing games at 1920x1080 as long as I'm prepared to turn a few settings down on the latest games.

$4850. Under $100

thats a 4850 with time to run I was talking about a *G92* 8800GTS, its not under a hundred that auction has 10 hours to run, guessing it will end up around $130 ish.

848550 2010-01-15 05:50:00 Im still using an 8800gt and that still has enough grunt to manage max settings at 1680x1050. It also does ok with 1920x1080.

The 4850 is definitely the best of the bunch but if you want cheap then go 8800gts 512 or 8800gt 512

Wouldn't pay more than 100 for one. How soon you wanting one? I'm probaly gonna part ways with mine sooner rather than later...
