848535 2010-01-13 23:49:00 i am building a cheaper pc and i was wondering which GPU is better, note they are second hand and are all in great condition also i think most of them have the original box manual etc, the ones i can choose from are :

hd 4850 512mb ( this is cheap now but it may get to expensive for me to purchase )

xfx 8600gts 256mb

xfx 8800gts 512mb alpha dog edition it is unclear at thins stage if its the triple X edition or the standard alpha dog.

hd 4650 512mb

asus en8400gs ( its the smaller one low profile )

asus en9400gt ( low profile )

so which is better for gaming and how much would be the max you'd spend on each of them as i have no real idea how much they are worth, thanks :D

Out of those I would pick the 4850, its much better than the 8800gts.
I would pay about $125 second hand for it as they are ~170 brand new from playtech

The only Cards i would touch is the 4850(pref) and 8800gts, the other cards are rubbish or at least not gaming cards.

use pricespy as a good rough guide.

848541 2010-01-14 03:22:00 Yep, 4850 or the 8800GTS as the 512MB version is based on the G92 chip, not the old G80. qazwsxokmijn (102)
848542 2010-01-14 03:35:00 hd 4850 512mb - out of the lot, this one, they are as cheap as dirt even new now, go take a look

xfx 8600gts 256mb - Laughable as well as old

xfx 8800gts -ancient history now

hd 4650 512mb - Nope, lame.

asus en8400gs - this is not even a gaming card. It will cope with Solitaire and not much else. Forget it.

asus en9400gt - ditto
