848285 2010-01-13 03:54:00 I have been playing Caesar IV, which requires a CD in the drive before it will start. This is a PITA, so I cloned the CD onto a virtual drive. Now when I try and start the game I get a message:

Please insert the original disc instead of a backup. See www.securom.com for more details.

Is there any way to work around this?

848286 2010-01-13 04:05:00 legally possibly not with securom. A nocd fix might work but I tried it with a game with Securom, didn't work at all. nedkelly (9059)

I understand about the dubious legality, but I think this is a case where legality and good sense bang heads a bit. I still have the original CD and am not planning to pass it on, so my conscience is clear.

848288 2010-01-13 04:47:00 yeah not sure about nocd fixed being legal. Might be good to google get Caesar IV to work with no cd. nedkelly (9059)

848290 2010-01-13 06:06:00 oh nocd is an exe that you put in place of the exe that starts the game and requires the disk. (BUT Copy the original exe some place safe first), but it does not need the cd to run the game if you get the right version. nedkelly (9059)

It replaces the .exe, and removes the need for the disk to be in the drive at all play times.
Naturally you still have to own a legal game so it's not a pirate thing.

In fact it's a brilliant thing.

I use them always.
