748619 2009-02-17 08:51:00 Hiya

I am wanting to know what options are there for this regard?

I see composite video cable.
HD VGA.
HDMI.

Could someone provide half a line for each one. I assume the composite is not HD but better than the std cable, I think HD VGA is HD but not as good as HDMI??

:)

748620 2009-02-17 08:55:00 HD VGA is probably normal VGA as it shows here (hardware.teamxbox.com)

Composite is probably RCA cables

748621 2009-02-17 09:11:00 If you're going to use that monitor in your signature for this, then get the HDMI.
VGA/Composite is analogue so you'll never get proper HD anyways.

748622 2009-02-17 09:50:00 Composite is really poor quality.
Component is better quality, but lots of cables (3 video + 2 audio)
VGA is slightly better than component. Both do 720P, still need the 2 audio cables. VGA connectors are the most annoying if you have limited space to work with
HDMI is the most convenient because it is a single cable for both audio & video, and it is the only one that can do 1080P

748623 2009-02-17 11:39:00 Greven-Actually DVI can do 1080p also, HDMI and DVI carry the same signals, HDMI just carries audio on the same cable also.

Also, Nomad:Using a dongle won't affect or downgrade the quality, as they both use the HDCP encryption option, so therefore an adapter is just the signal wires rearranged.

I was meaning HDMI is the only connection available on an Xbox360 that does 1080P

748625 2009-02-20 08:26:00 I am not a gamer, it is for someone else .

I bought the official Xbox HDMI cable . I was told that if you buy a generic HDMI cable some games may not provide audio, a bit dodgy . . .

Included in the MS package there was the HDMI cable and also another cable which allows 2 channel audio . Why is this here? I thought the HDMI has audio? I don't have a HDTV to try the audio out, all I have is the computer LCD which does HDMI, I don't have included speakers on it, it may work with standard headphones off the screen not tried yet .

So 1) Xbox HDMI cable has audio? 2) So why does the package provide a 2 channel audio cable? Both cables are plugged on the machine .

The 2 cables are probably for a TV, if its got RCA plugs

I thought the HDMI has audio?

Normally it does

Unless its got a headphone socket on it, you probably wont get sound. You'll have to plug the headphones into line out on the case,to get sound

You sure the monitor doesnt have speakers? No point being HDMI if it doesnt. Did you install the HDMI drivers?

Anything in device manager missing or showing a ? If its got sockets on the monitor, it should have sound

748627 2009-02-20 09:21:00 Dunno when he tried with the HDMI cable off the Xbox, the screen had no audio, it however does have a optional soundbar that can be snapped on. At the back it also has a audio out port, maybe the headphones goes in may check tomm with the Xbox plugged in.

No missing hardware in device manager. All fine.

748628 2009-02-20 23:32:00 The extra audio cables are probably for exactly this situation - connecting to a monitor that has HDMI but not speakers. Some older devices don't support HDMI audio.

I've got a generic HDMI cable & XBOX360 audio works perfectly through it on every game I have played.

Slightly off topic, but while I was researching HDMI problems I was having with my PC, I found a really interesting blog about Intel HDMI. software.intel.com
