| 849269 | 2010-01-16 07:46:00 | Hi, im wondering if any of you others out there on Telecom Big Time are having a problem with port blocking, non standard ports. Port 22 (SSH) is forwarding properly but a port 6676 (which i changed my ssh to listen on) is blocked...also Port 80 is allowed but port 88 is not with the same service set up. This has only happened to me in the last week or so, seems that all non-standard ports are being blocked? any ideas anyone? frustrating spending 30 mintues on the phone just trying to find someone who knows what port forwarding actually is! |

| 849270 | 2010-01-16 08:26:00 | They're not "blocking" anything. Certain ports get slowed, but never blocked. I work over SSH all the time, it's fine? Same with both ssh and http on non-standard ports, works perfectly? |

| 849271 | 2010-01-16 10:45:00 | that is why i am so confused at the whole thing. so currently i can set up SSH listening on port 22, and modem forwards to pc port 22 and it works. i set up ssh to listen on port 6676 and it works locally within the LAN, set up the port forward for port 6676 and the connection just times out from the client machine. I have done the same with a webserver (port 80 works fine) but using nonstandard port doesnt (ie 5544) I am awaiting a call back from the broadband helpdesk tomorrow, (fingers crossed i will get a callback) |

| 849272 | 2010-01-16 22:55:00 | Why change the internal ports? Just forward 6676 external to 22 internal. You can also have 22 external forwarded at the same time for testing. |

| 849274 | 2010-02-07 11:37:00 | Hi, I just changed my plan to big time this month and all my forwarded ports were working fine until I download about 50GB. But now I can't seem to find a single open port (not even once like 80,22,443). Are they blocking ports when you use a certain amount of bandwidth? Because I have not changed any settings in my computer or the router. PS:- Is there a fair usage policy for the big time plan. |

| 849275 | 2010-02-07 17:50:00 | I think they got rid of the fair use policy and replaced it with "we will slow your internet down however and whenever we feel like it" Bittorrent for me is pretty sporadic, usually only works well after around midnight. |

| 849276 | 2010-02-08 00:31:00 | It seems to me like the throttling is protocol specific, or just hates rapidshare. I have no trouble with SFTP any time of day, but youtube can take 4minutes to load an 8minute video sometimes,if its not cached in Auckland I guess. |

| 849278 | 2010-02-08 18:12:00 | Yeah cached YouTube is the biggy, be sure to use Xtras DNS servers. Yes, they throttle specific sites, such as Rapidshare etc so you don't get yourself a premium account with them and just leech leech leech. They *don't* slow on a per-account basis. I've done over 220GB in January and my connection was solid as a rock. I know, I keep a *very* close eye on things in my router (Tomato firmware). I personally wouldn't bother with torrents, but if you do, then look up "uTP" and "uTorrent". hckath: Sounds like either your PC is being firewalled internally, or you need to open the ports in your router, but please start a new thread for that with your router Make, Model, IP address of your PC, PC Operating System, and any software running on it. |
