849091 2010-01-15 23:15:00 Hi all,
I'm having some problems getting XP to work on an old PC. It starts booting fine, but after the loading screen it just goes blank. VGA mode allows it to boot, but it's not ideal. Does this mean I need to install new video drivers?

849092 2010-01-15 23:37:00 problems getting XP to work on an old PC.

How old is old.........what are the spec's, how much ram.

XP Home or Pro though that in itself might make no difference.

Could be a host of things till we have more info.

849093 2010-01-15 23:45:00 Most likely drivers. Which is another thing. pctek (84)
849094 2010-01-16 03:51:00 Had a similar graphic problem with a customers PC here yesterday (wouldn't load in anything but safemode) the fix -- right click on my computer / Properties/Hardware Tab/ Device manager - Expand out the Display Adapter - select the graphic device, right click, uninstall - reboot - Should load in the default drivers - if it does, then download and install the latest for the motherboard/ Card.

Worked for me - so it may or may not work for you.

849095 2010-01-17 02:31:00 Mobo: ECS K7S5A
512MB RAM
320GB Seagate Barracuda
Video card: TNT2
XP Pro

I can't find any drivers for the chipset, which is an SiS 735 I think.

849097 2010-01-17 02:42:00 Or go to the SIS site and do a scan. It may pick up what you want Speedy Gonzales (78)
849098 2010-01-17 02:44:00 Well, I feel like an idiot.
I tried the scan thing, but Firefox crashed. It seems to do it quite frequently.

849099 2010-01-17 02:49:00 Use IE then Speedy Gonzales (78)
849100 2010-01-17 03:08:00 Sounds more like you need the graphic drivers, which wont do anything from the chipset, since this board doesn't have onboard graphics - XP should put in those older chipset drivers automatically, along with the TNT graphic drivers.

Did you uninstall the drivers like I suggested ??

If you want fresh graphic drivers, Nvidia site (www.nvidia.com) - select legacy / TNT -- its a 19.4 MB download.

If you want the chipset then download from Here has them (www.nodevice.com) -- Audio Drivers (driverscollection.com)
