748026 2009-02-15 02:25:00 Wrong again! The taxes the average US-zen pays support the rest of the world

You seriously should do some reasearch . America has been very good at crushing other nations to meet their own ends .

Jamaica and their sugar for instance .
Oil producing countries .

And lets see, closer to your home, ask the Native Indians how they feel about things .

American population has past 300 million, and the average American consumes more resources than anybody else on the planet . On a global scale the average US citizen uses far more than his or her fair share of the planet's resources - consuming more than four times the worldwide average of energy, almost three times as much water and producing more than twice the average amount of rubbish and five times the amount of carbon dioxide, a major contributor to global warming . The US - with five per cent of the world's population - uses 23 per cent of its energy, 15 per cent of its meat and 28 per cent of its paper .

America is the new Rome, and we know what happened to them .
Good, roll it on before they trash any more of the planet .

748027 2009-02-15 02:28:00 Rome died of lead poisoning (plumb = base for "lead" ie, "plumber" and "it's a lead-pipe cinch" et al).

Any nation/place/country that colors their wine with lead oxide deserved to die.

Now - on the other hand - the US will die of immorality: the only non-consensus is "whose?"

748028 2009-02-15 03:13:00 I believe that the USA will die of suffocation from having had it's head either up it's own ar$e or in the sand for too long.

The insular attitude practised by many will be the downfall of the USA :(

748029 2009-02-15 03:14:00 We stopped having a suckle when we banned your ships entering our ports. I would think the US would rely on China as much as you think the rest of the world rely's on the US. Most people in NZ have little sympathy for the US or its inhabitants

Too true we faced down the usa and not allowed their nuke death ships here.
Rome died because the so called barbarians attacked them and defeated them.

748030 2009-02-15 03:50:00 Rome went kaput after it became christian. Must have been the pleasure tax. R2x1 (4628)
748031 2009-02-15 04:06:00 You can come up with the crackpot theories you want on the fall of Rome.
The cause of the fall of Rome in my opinion was that they come second in fighting the people attacking them.
I hope there is a parallel in the middle east and north america in the future.

748032 2009-02-15 04:07:00 If Iraq wasn't about oil then why are US companies being handed nice contracts on favourable terms to help rebuild the oil fields? gary67 (56)

The barbarians didn't have to attack Rome - at its final hour, the barbarians just walked in and took what they wanted. The Romans didn't put up any fight at all.

A bit like what could happen with the overly politically-correct-all-inclusive-tree-hugging Western (so-called-)civilisation and the Islamic world (the Islamists are the 'barbarians' for the purpose of this comparison....)

748035 2009-02-15 08:41:00 I hope there is a parallel in the middle east and north america in the future.

There will be - even Alexander the Great got tired of trying to win a war in Afghanistan and went home. There is not a single foreign military occupation or invasion of Afghanistan in all of history that has succeeded.

You'd think that the most recent example of a military invasion of Afghanistan - by the USSR - would leave a fairly deep impression.
