747324 2009-02-13 03:17:00 For what it's worth - the facts (as far as I'm aware)

- Teenage little sh1t and his mate out late at night, roaming the streets vandalising whatever they feel like. Probably a typical night out for them.

- Got drunk AND high before they left home. A 15 year old.

- Caught in the act by one home owner. No doubt got away with damaging numerous other properties

- Emery chases the cretin, after grabbing a knife to scare the little buggers

- As I understand, these brats hid from him (in the dark) and prepared to rush at him.

- Dumbass ran into the knife. Already established.

Hardly murder and not worthy of the emotive crap from in the Herald.

Not exactly a sweet innocent boy murdered by some heartless bastard hell-bent on revenge.

The fact is, it was a stoned, drunk, 15-year-old out late at night who, when caught out, decided to try to ambush the innocent target of this vandalism.
The fact that he ran into a knife in the dark - not stabbed... it's called karma.

747325 2009-02-13 03:29:00 Uh, That isn't a list of facts, Thats your opinions laid over guesswork.

The facts are a 50 year old man chased a child down the street with a knife, and then used the knife to stab and kill him.

You go down the street armed with a knife and stab people to death then you can expect to go to jail.

747326 2009-02-13 03:35:00 There shouldn't be anything wrong with using hostile force to protect your own family and belongings from harm.

"I would suggest people in this situation ring the police and stay on your property. For goodness sake, don't even try to apprehend them. Just wake up the next morning and clean it off."

If this did indeed happen, no would would have been killed. The tagger, if he was even caught, would probably be given community service. I recently read of someone who had been given 150 hours community service but had only completed 4 hours. So the judge gave him another 50.

Its stories like this which help me understand why people take the law into their own hands.

747327 2009-02-13 03:37:00 Didn't the doctor establish during the trial that there was no forward motion involved in the knife entering the body (i.e. he walked/ran into it)?

That's not a "stabbing". Rush toward something in the dark and you're going to make contact with it.

Drunk, stoned teenage brats don't understand concepts like that.

747328 2009-02-13 03:38:00 If he had gone out there with a cut off pool cue and knocked him around without chasing him down the road he would have had my full support.

I can't condone chasing people around with a knife merely for marking your fence, Its always going to end badly for everyone.

Hmm.. no. I don't condone beating the little sh1t up, even though he felt like it. It was about scaring them away. No-one can seriously think he intended to use the knife. It was a kid.

The fact remains that if that kid hadn't hid and then rushed him......

Pretty much it. Though I think his life is a very high price to pay, it's one death that doesn't sadden me one bit. After all, he is not innocent in any way.

By the looks of it his mother is the one we should feel sorry for. A mother who did her best but still couldn't save her son from the path he chose.

You take a knife and chase someone, You have something in mind, That something is stabby stab stab. 30m is scaring someone, 300m is trying to catch them, and giving them plenty of time to get over their initial fright.

The kid is at fault for vandalism, Not for standing up to someone chasing after him with a knife. If he had chased me with his knife I would have killed him...or been stabbed in the heart and died.

As I said earlier, If your a big enough coward to present a knife, its going to end badly.
