I find this incredible, shows what a crock the RMA is. The labor govt would have known about this and did nothing I hope they get prosecuted.
A govt dept giving hush money to a govt SOE just isnt right. This is what you would expect in Equatorial Guinea not a Westminster type of democracy.

748371 2009-02-16 09:22:00 Quote:Trust Power spokesman Graeme Purches said their deal with DoC was for better access to a reserve and an information kiosk.
He said the money has not yet changed hands but "over time" it will.
Mr Purches said some people are calling these deals bribery but that is wrong.
"It's about working with stake-holders to get a win-win. It's not about bribery. I think anyone who suggests you can bribe a Government department like DoC has got rocks in their head," Mr Purches said.

Oh so if a student at university gave money to a teacher for a good grade/pass etc that would not be bribery,it would be about working with stake-holders to get a win-win.It's not about bribery.Anyone who suggests you can bribe a teacher who has a student loan and a mortage and a young family with only one income has got rocks in their head.

Yeah Right!!!

How on earth do they believe what crap they are saying!!!

Do they really think we would believe that crap.

A bribe is a bribe.Simple as that!!!Corruption thats what it is!!! :2cents::2cents:

748373 2009-02-16 09:32:00 I don't condone what's happened here, but in your example, memphis, both parties to the action profit individually. This is out and out bribery and corrupt practice.

From my understanding of the DoC/Meridian deal, no single individual profits from the monetary exchange (especially now that it's in the public domain!)...

So doesn't this put it into a slightly different category of 'bribery'?

748375 2009-02-16 09:52:00 It is simple really; the media are trying to beat up what looked like a scandalous story and you have got sucked in to their lack of analysis .

Meridian wanted to get their OK . DoC had objections to the scheme and would have gone to Court to express them .

Meridian met with DoC to find out what DoC's objections were to the wind farm . DoC had two concerns - one was that they would have to change the way they accessed their own sites in the area; the other related to concerns about the impact of the project on the native falcon .

Both issues would cost DoC (and hence we the taxpayers) . Meridian asked DoC how much it would cost to sort out the access issues, and how much it would cost to deal with the issues over the native falcon (I am not sure what this would pay for but I assume it is the cost of monitoring and researching the impact on the falcon and any remedial work they would need to do) . DoC told them their estimate of both costs, and Meridian paid them a negotiated sum of money, the same as any other concessionaire has to do on the DoC estate .

DoC therefore had no more concerns, because their objections had been met . There was a confidentiality clause, yes, but that was to stop other objectors on this and other projects setting or ramping up a price (standard business practice) . In due course, DoC filed the papers in a publicly accessible forum last year, and that is where the media found them (no doubt prompted by a **** stirrer who thought they could get mileage out of flinging dung) .

Would you as a taxpayer sooner have paid for the costs DoC would have incurred had they gone to Court over the two issues (lawyer's and Court fees) and the costs of mitigating the impact of Meridian's actions? As it is, Meridian has paid these costs for us and DoC has avoided Court fees .

I am constantly staggered how so many people get sucked in by our brainless media . No story here folks, move along .

748376 2009-02-16 09:54:00 Nothing wrong with that prefect. It happens all the time to stop other government depts fighting against each other in the courts and save the tax payer money.

My example with the student bribe is to point out that a bribe is a bribe no matter what the situation. And that if they think it's ok for them then everybody else can justify it as well. And then we get a currupt soceity and everthing is for sale at the right price!!!And then we truly do become a third world country with anything goes.:yuck:

With the DOC/Trustpower and Meridian bribery scandal that has been leaked out they have not said WHAT the money is going to be spent on...a new office, chairs, carpet, bonus money, new cars etc....

Hay mate if you do/dont this I will give you some money.

We should be calling it out pure and simple ....IT'S A BRIBE!!!!

Those responsible should be FIRED as there is no faith or trust in them and they are currupt. What else have they done!!!:angry

What other SOE/City Council's are doing deals.-(BRIBES).

What else is for sale Grandma/kitchen sink etc.:horrified
