849873 2010-01-19 05:20:00 Open the file manager by Start/Windows-key E, select the 'Tools' menu, select 'Folder options', select 'View', scroll down to 'hide known extensions' and un-tick it. All visible files will show their extensions. mzee (3324)

You can probably get more information by right clicking on the file and viewing the file properties.

849876 2010-01-20 04:54:00 Try Start > Control Panel > Folder Options > View and untick Hide extensions for known file types.

Also try what ad267 says and post back the name of the file.

Where is this file by the way. Is it attached to an Email by any chance?

849879 2010-01-20 07:20:00 You could try right clicking the file and select "open with" and you will be get a number of options to try For example if it is a photo file you will be given the options "windows picture and fax viewer, paint, your web browser, your photo editor plus any other programs such as picasa you have installed tutaenui (1724)
