748979 2009-02-18 07:09:00 I'm looking at buying a waterblaster (sick of borrowing the brother-in-law's!), and was wondering what sort of PSI rating I should be getting? I'll be using it primarily for stripping paint off my house, but also for cleaning concrete, decking etc?

Will probably go for Karcher, as they're a known quantity so to speak.

748980 2009-02-18 07:27:00 Karcher! We got one, husband sulked until I let him.
He cleans the ute with it too.

Not sure of its PSI but it was $149?

748981 2009-02-18 07:27:00 Me old mate the painter has a 2500, I went and hired a 3000, He figured it was a tad too harsh, and truth be told it ripped **** out of the house, but did have the option to lower the pressure. Metla (12)

We have a Karcher, mind you often for cleaning the outside of the house the extendable hose brush does a better job

748983 2009-02-18 08:00:00 In general. The highest water pressure, PSI: & greatest water flow 6 Plus litres. You will need a high PSI to strip paint.

We used a borrowed one recently. It was not a handyman type. A pump & moter mounted on a wheeled frame. Powerful. If you wern't ready when you started to blast it would knock you backwards trying to get your balance. Did it strip paint? did it ever!!! PJ

748984 2009-02-18 08:59:00 You get what you pay for Karcher which is a German company, gets the el cheapos made in Asia.
The first thing to go on them is the hose whose replacement costs as much as the blaster. So be gentle with the hose its just reinforced plastic, pretty fragile so dont kink it or drag it across concrete.
The el cheapos dont have a oil lube system for the pump valves. So when running the water pressure coming out of the nozzle is about equal to the tap pressure going in its sucked a big one.
Grab water blaster by its handle and throw it in the skip bin.
After saying all this we have 10 years use out of an el cheapo karcher and its still going but hasnt been used much.
You wouldnt really want to water blast your car to clean unless you stood back a few metres but most have a secondary nozzle you can fit on with a detergent dispenser.
I dont think a el cheapo karcher could be used for paint stripping you would need around 5000 psi for that.
