| 748817 | 2009-02-17 20:38:00 | A guy I know was told in no uncertain terms by his doctor that he cannot drive a car any more because his eyesight is so poor. He already has had several accidents (damage to his car but not to other cars, property or people) due to his poor eyesight. He is still driving, stubbornly saying that he still holds a legal license. It will only be a matter of time before a bad accident happens. Is there anything that can be done? I don't think the police can take away his license unless they see him doing something wrong. He does not have to take his driver's eye exam until later this year. |

And if he continues to drive without a license go and have a nice word to the local cop shop, explaining the situation. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to help out. It's no good having someone like that on the roads its a timebomb just waiting to go off... |

Put it this way, if he has a major accident tomorrow and kills or maims somebody, will you wish you had done something different? |

| 748824 | 2009-02-18 00:00:00 | I rang the local police but there was no answer (!) so I rang the 0800 number for Driver Licensing out of the phone book and was told that doctors must fill out a form and send it to LTSA Licensing - within a week someone (a cop?) will knock on the 89 yr old's door and ask for his license and inform him that it is invalid. I then informed a family member who left a message for the doctor (ophthalmologist), reminding him to submit the form to the driver's licensing dept. Thanks anyhow for the comments... but cooking oil??? |
