850944 2010-01-22 12:09:00 Any help or pointers on this one appreciated please.

Basically when I turn on my Packard Bell desktop machine 9 out of 10 times it'll make the right noises but the screen stays on standby thus no ouput from the graphix card I presume ! 1 in 10 time it boots absolutely fine with no problems at all.

I have opened the box up and it was incredibly dusty so cleaned it all out removed all the cards (graphix, sound, network etc..) and reseated them along with ram.

It booted up fine after I did this (could have been fluke) but now back to only working about 1 in 10.

I have tried a system restore going back a few months when there was no issues but still no joy.

Any ideas ?

thanks in advance

850945 2010-01-22 12:44:00 I'd try another PSU first.
Have a look for bad capacitors (www.imagef1.net.nz) next (including PSU).
Then do a Memtest (http://www.memtest86.com/)(click on Free download, top left).
Then try another graphics card.

I have a couple of old PSU's kicking around I'll see if any of those will fit first then try a different Graffix card... oh and have a look for leaky capacitors cheers for your help.
