850144 2010-01-20 05:40:00 A frlend of mine brought an upgrade box about 3 months ago. I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on it used Firefox & Thunderbird for internet access on broadband & it went well for about 6 weeks. Then the system stopped accessing the internet altough the ping test was OK. Using my laptop on his connection I could access the internet using Vista but not with Ubuntu. The Xtra help desk told me that they only supported Windows systems & couldn't be of any help!
So I installed Fedora 12 and that worked well for a few weeks.
Then today my friend told me he couldn't get on the internet again.
I'm not sure what to try now so hope someone can suggest something. Could it be his router??

850145 2010-01-20 05:58:00 Sounds like a DNS problem.
Presumably getting network config via DHCP from the router?
What DNS servers is it supplying?

850147 2010-01-20 06:35:00 Make sure the modem is turned on before starting the PC or else set the IP address, DNS first and secondary servers and gateway. mikebartnz (21)
