850051 2010-01-19 15:03:00 Ok. So after attending a few LAN parties, and realising my case is rather ugly, I've decided to upgrade it, and the look. Also, I've been noticing the heat rising, so I'm upgrading my cooling while I'm at it.

I'd just like some more professional opinions .. and just to make sure it would work.

This (www.ascent.co.nz) is my current case. No added fans.

And this (ascent.co.nz) is the one that looks the best for my situation. And I'll buy a extra fan for it. But do I have to buy one of those Multi Power Port's so I can add more fans? I'm pretty sure my Mobo (www.ascent.co.nz) only has one case fan ports. Another thing I see at these LAN parties is people talking about these (www.ascent.co.nz) things, which to me look quite handy.

Oh and can this (www.ascent.co.nz) attach to my Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66 GHz, 1333MHz FSB, Socket 775

Sorry for all the links, but thanks, you guys are awesome :thanks

850052 2010-01-19 17:43:00 Looking at the links you just need a case that takes an ATX mobo, there are a few paople on here with those fan controllers I think. You will need to know the height of that cooler to see if it will fit the case you want but I cant see why it wouldn't gary67 (56)

So?
Most case fans have both the motherboard header and a molex connector, or adapters so you can use either.

Sorry to be off topic, but I got a bit of a giggle about this, being an old fart. Time was when girls going to a party worried about whether their stocking seams were straight, and us guys, well, we just worried about whether there would be enough beer.

Now you poor folk have to worry about how your computer case looks. Haven't times changed? :waughh:

850056 2010-01-19 21:07:00 Hey Mister,

I have the Scout case, and know heaps of people who have it too - very awesome case, definitely get it! Good cooling options, and the handles are very convenient for LAN parties. You can get it cheaper than that too:

As said above, most fans have molex connectors as well so you don't *need* a fan speed controller, but they do help. I swear by mine - silence when it's in my house, full speed when it's at a LAN. Rheobus controllers are a bit cheaper too:

And yes that cooler will fit on your 775 board :) It's not the best cooler, but it's alright for the price.

850057 2010-01-19 22:27:00 Mister, both of those cases are Fugly IMO, however i can say the cooler is great, however I would purchase the bolt thru kit about $26 to go with it instead of the clip ons! SolMiester (139)

Amen brother.

I would also look at the CoolerMaster CM690 but if you want to put a side window the cost will be more than the Scout. That cooler would fit with any new ATX case I think, the main thing is checking it doesn't mess with your RAM or anything. I have a P7P55D Pro, the Megahalems cooler with a 120mm fan and 4 corsair dominator ram chips, there is about 1.5mm clearance in several places, was an absolute pig to install. Look up reviews on the cooler and there will always be good pics of it with various boards, will give you a good idea.

If you're gonna spend over $100 might as well get the Megahalems:

(add $15 if you need 120mm fan).

One of the best air coolers money can buy. It will fit in the Scout if you don't use the top of the two side-window fan bays.
