749783 2009-02-22 22:39:00 We have a number of older PC's around work used for trest equipment, etc - some run specialised ISA cards, so expensive to upgrade, so we keep 'em running as long as possible. We try to have centralised files on the LAN for firmware, etc, so most are LAN-connected. Got hit by one of the early major LAN virii (back in '04) & some of these machines resulted in new re-infections over the LAN for a while because they had been forgotten about. Installed genuine AVG LAN edition - problem solved, except...

One of these is a clone Cyrix '586' (sorta in between a 486DX & Pentium I for you youngsters out there) with 32MB of RAM & running 98SE. Once we upgraded to AVG8 there was no way this machine could update - keep getting Greg's error above. I've actually killed this machine's net connection as it's not as necessary as the rest.

Otherwise I've had no problems with AVG, except for a few initial glitches with the v7-v8 upgrade at home. It does seem to be a bit hungrier than Avast, which I've put into 2 out of 3 PC's at home, so once I get around to it I'll probably change the AVG PC over.

Philippines call centre staff working for Telecom are to be trained to talk like New Zealanders, learning slang words and mastering the accent as part of a plan to cut jobs in New Zealand.

The company said it would put the new employees through a two-month training session.

Once completed, some would sound like "authentic Kiwis".

British-based Rob O'Malley, whose company employs more than 3500 call-centre workers in the Philippines, told the Dominion Post the results were often "staggering".

"You wouldn't know they are in Manila. You would think they are in an office somewhere in Auckland that's how good they are."

Telecom spokesman Mark Watts said the training would also give workers information about New Zealand's customs, geography, education, sports and events.

"Call it a crash course in the Kiwi experience," he said.

Pity they didn't think to give them a quick run-through on computers, the internet etc.

Telecom, <- - -> Think?

Two Tuis.

However I do agree with the Pom who said the experience was staggering. I have seen users staggering away from their phones.Hmm... senility kicking in early R2? :p

Still trying to figure out what this has to do with AVG, but then again being blonde doesn't aid me much when trying to get the point :D

749785 2009-02-23 00:43:00 The only thing Telecom can deliver in a timely manner is assorted virus attacks :D ;)
And senility is kicking in - but a bit late. The old stupidity had taken all vacancies.
