I stopped watching TV3 and One's evening news hours several years ago in anger over the increasingly tabloid nature of their stories and practice. TVNZ's One managed to hold out against TV3 in this regard for some time, but eventually they ended up succumbing to running the same mindless pieces about the same useless non-events. That was around the time I discovered BBC world news... |

Interesting factoid about the BBC News here in NZ : it is on after midnight on TV1 but the infomercials on other channels get higher ratings.......it's hard to find anything positive to say about an audience that prefers infomercials to the BBC......:groan: Another factoid about ratings : 90% of survey respondents prefer to watch documentaries & educational programmes to soaps & dramas. But what does the public actually watch when both are on? You guessed it - dramas and soaps.....the daily ratings confirm this. People will say what they think the surveyor wants to hear, but for most people TV is a form of escapism. |

Sack most of the 50 managers they have, they should only need 4 or 5. Cut the pay of the remaining managers by half. Yes 1 new reader, 1 weather person. 1 sports person. 1 cooking show a week 1 house show a week No CSI type programs (there is one a day) as they are all the same and probably give crims some good ideas. I could go on. And while they we at it cut every chief execs pay in half. No one deserves the amount of money they get for running mostly monopolies. Eg our cities town clerk gets $350,000 a year for running a huge debt, piss poor facilities and a captive customer base - he does not have to "sell anything. |

| 749560 | 2009-02-22 10:08:00 | Mark my words - Freeview is here to stay. This is the Digital way forward when all the analogue transmitters will be decommissioned some time in about 2016 (from memory). It isn't just TVNZ paying for Freeview - it is all of the broadcasters. Unfortunately only 12-13% of viewers have taken up Freeview and I think the biggest issue is that people doen't understand what it is. I too agree that 50 senior managers is way over the top. When we heard they were looking for cost savings of 25m and they were going to get suggestions from the 50 senior managers, the answer kind of suggests itself doesn't it? |
