Apparently not to some people including the Race Relations Office . Watching Close Up last night and everybody including the Coach of the Maori All Blacks was quite happy to admit you need at least 1/16 Maori Blood to qualify . This is a racially selected team, like it or not . How many say Croatians could or have made it to the NZ Maoris? Having said that, most New Zealand born Kiwi's would have at least some mixed blood in their family, ie a Maori woman marrying a White man, etc . That's the way is it and that's the way it should be, we are a mixed culture nation . I myself will qualify on blood lines but hell I'm not skilled enough!! While I agree no team should be selected on racial grounds, there is a big difference between the local Croatian Soccer Team and the New Zealand Maori Team visiting South Africa . First, any team with the words New Zealand in their name represents New Zealand . Racist teams have no place in New Zealand culture . Next, like minded people often join together to form clubs . For example, a Croatian Soccer Team will be a collection of people who have come here from Croatia . Assuming I, a New Zealand born Kiwi wanted to join and if I had enough skill in the game and the Pub afterwards, (which I don't, Ok maybe in the Pub!!), would I be turned down simply because I don't have 1/16 Croatian blood . I think not . If I was then this would be a racist team too . Don't forget South Africa has a history of extreme racial tension . They have finally woken up to the problem and are now working as one nation . Good on them for having the guts, the balls and the backbone for making us aware of our own racist problem . South Africa Rugby had invited The New Zealamd Maoris to play over there but later withdrew the offer because it might contravene their anti-racist laws . Wake up New Zealand Government, Law Makers, NZRU and Race Relations . You can't have a bob both ways . Our New Zealand Maoris are a racist team . I personally would be happy to see the team continue, (some doubt here too because of finance), but drop the blood requirement . This would immediately give the team a greater status and increased mana . The message it is currently sending: These Maori boys are not good enough to make the New Zealand All Blacks . We have to do something with them, let's give them their very own team . This message is degrading not only to the players, Maori and all New Zealand Peoples and is simply not true . The New Zealand Maori Team have fostered some of the great names of New Zealand Rugby . Come on NZRU give them the respect they deserve!! BURNZEE |

Scotland rugby team - nationality selection. All Blacks - nationality selection. NZ Maori rugby team - racial selection. And no official denies this. But still it persists... I agree with that.Plus if your a Maori you get two chances to represent and play in a top rugby team the All Blacks and the NZ Maori rugby team,if you dont make one team then you can try out for the other one.If your white you only have one chance and that's it All Blacks and nothing else. That's not fair or right. Also why does NZ call it's sporting team's by colours: All Blacks - Rugby All Whites - Soccer Black Caps - Cricket Black sticks - Hockey Tall Blacks - Basketball Black Magic - America's Cup Regatta Black Socks - Softball Iron Blacks - NZ American Football Team Wheel Blacks -Wheelchair Rugby Black Ferns - Netball Ice Blacks - Ice Hockey What's up with that Racial linkage?Can NZ only come up with a Black or White team name. Oh there is also Sliver Ferns and Black Ferns for teams as well. NZ =Colour issue's?Maybe....you decide for yourself. |

If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists . You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it . But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists . You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us . But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist . I am proud .
