750485 2009-02-23 09:29:00 When you're done in this Hamiltron place, can you tell me where it is? --Wolf-- (128)
750486 2009-02-23 11:05:00 You'll never find it, its in the future hahahahahha rob_on_guitar (4196)
750487 2009-02-24 02:22:00 Can't help with the activities, as I'm not a Hamiltonian.
But I'm interested in details about the opera, as a music-lover..

So which opera?
What part do you have?
Will it help your career or are you just marking time?

(On second thoughts, you may not wish to make some of these details public. I'm happy to get a Private Message - which will definitely remain private)

It's Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera, which is one of his earlier ones. It's pretty hard to follow plot-wise, even for a Mozart opera. I'm playing the part of Nardo, which is the only lower part in the opera (there are two tenors and four sopranos!).

It's not really going to do a lot for me career-wise, but it's good experience. I'm in other operas this year that are going to do more for me though. Janaceks "Cunning little vixen" in Wellington, chorus in Rossini's "L'Italiana in Algieri" and a small role in "Eugene Onegin" with NZ Opera.

Only in Hamilton until tomorrow, so I'm not so worried anymore, the museum is OK, and there are some ok cafes on Victoria Street.

And Rob, opera isn't everyone's cup of tea, so that's a fair assessment. Mind you, rock isn't mine, so I'm feeling you there.

750488 2009-02-24 03:00:00 I think you doing opera is great, a music that takes skill is great.
The arty farty comment was for the waffles that walk around hamilton pretending to be something important hoping you will come see a friend of their friends next door neighbours milkmans cousins art gallery that is so out of this world you may or may not have to drop a tab at the door. Sometimes they are interesting. For about 3 seconds.

Granted I'm not Rob, Though I am partial to mocking opera :lol::lol:.

In truth I find it pretty amazing even though its not my cup of tea.

750490 2009-02-24 08:57:00 In fact I might write a blog on how crap hamilton bars are except for axces.

agreed, was up there for a cousins wedding last year and was most unimpressed. the police presence was pretty exciting though. big line down the center of some street going through the center of town.

is it always like that or just put on for me?:p

750491 2009-02-24 20:35:00 Always like that, hamilton has an ever increasing danger element to its night life.
Half the bars are heavy handed by the mob, or if you look like you have put effort into how you look people want to fight.
Unless your at axces or similar bars, good tunes, pool, everyones friendly etc

750492 2009-02-25 01:15:00 Actually, despite being fairly boring, I've been amazed at how friendly everyone in Hamilton is. It's not a Lambton Quay or Auckland CBD environment, that's for sure.

The bars do look a fair bit rough, but I haven't had a chance to sample them, having had 6hrs+ rehearsal each day to contend with, hangovers aren't something I want to deal with. There are some nice cafes on Victoria Street though, in some cases as good as anything but the best in Auckland or Wellington.
