750374 2009-02-22 20:38:00 Hi guys

With all the bad news around (best not to read it !) and the Jobs Forum to be held on Friday I thought it would be good if we came up with a sensible list to see how we compare with the "experts" they have invited.

I am encouraged they have chosen the head of the NZX to chair it.

Here is my first one.

Lower all fees and impediments to house building (to encourage people to build houses which employs lots of people - builders, designers and lawyers)
Free up land
Order councils to drop their excessive fees
Come up with one set of building codes which all councils must use

The Government called a Jobs Forum 6 weeks ago to be held this Friday.
It is being chaired by Mark Weldon of the NZSE.
They have invited, Business Leaders, Finance leaders (sic) Experts, Manufacturers, Exporters, etc etc (but not me).
The idea is to come up with ideas for creating or saving jobs.
And John says he wants practical ideas and for it to be a "do fest" not a "talk fest"

So I thought it would be good if "we" came up with our serious practical ideas.

Seconded.

I can't believe the twats in this National government could even consider a funding package for F&P when the chief gets a million (plus) a year. That would mean he is getting around 30 times what the lowest paid worker gets at F&P - does that mean he's 30 times more productive?

Actually - he's not productive at all - he produces nothing that gets sold to produce the revenue for the company.

Agreed about the CEO's salary being apparently excessive.

However my biggest beef with extending a bailout to F&P is that this company was a New Zealand success story, which then demonstrated no loyalty to the people who bought their products (or the staff who made them) and moved all (most of?) their manufacturing offshore, eliminating local factory jobs and also the ability of local suppliers to provide components and other materials for the assembly lines.

Why should WE (it's taxpayer money, there's no such thing as "Government money") show any loyalty to this company, when they showed the NZ taxpayer the big middle finger????
