Can you see my frustration??

I'm greyghost_84
On the last auction...
I have an auto bid of up to $65, the other bidder has only bid up to $30......but my bid has jumped to my highest bid, and NO I didn't do that!
Second auction, last bidder, $53, then jumped to $65
First auction from $46 to $55?????

My account is secure, changed my password today.

All these auctions have been bid on at the same time tonight, but there is no bidder.....
What is going on here???

I have written to Trade Me, but they are usually hopeless, so I'm asking here....if anyone knows????

751237 2009-02-25 10:39:00 Someone elese placed a bid equal to yours, seeing you were in first only yours shows.

Next time make your auto bid for an odd amount eg. $65.59

If it had met the reserve your autobid would just go up past the other bidders .
But if it hasn't, it jumps to what you autobid at .

100% correct. It's explained somewhere in the Trademe info.
It may appear that you are bidding against yourself, but your autobid is simply being elevated up to either the reserve price, or your maximum autobid price, whichever is the LOWER price.

Once over the reserve, you'll see the autobidding behave in a more understandable manner.

You could look at it this way... up until the reserve is met, the seller is effectively bidding against you to get the price up to the reserve. These 'bids' aren't displayed by the system.

Yeah, it's not ideal, but it's not completely stupid either. A better implementation is probably possible, but those with influence on Trademe have for one reason or another decided not to bother with it.

Either you want the shirt or you dont, if you want keep bidding. Stop tyre kicking, what you probably want is to be put the buyers watchlist for offer afterwards.
My brother buys stuff on Ebay and sells on TM he uses a program that bid automatically a few seconds before the auction ends.
Good feedback squire well done you must be a honest trader I would buy anything from you.

May I ask what you meant by the above prefect??
greyghost (14654)
751242 2009-02-25 23:21:00 I am saying if you really want the shirt keep bidding till you get it.
A lot of people cause annoyance on TM by trying to find the limit of the autobid, accidently win the auction then say they dont want it.
Autobids might win auctions as some clowns say but it causes grief to sellers.

751243 2009-02-26 00:42:00 Um, find the limit of the auto bid...
There was no one else bidding there to reach that price.
Trade Me contacted me and said they had removed those high bids and they can't figure out why that happened either!
They said my auto bid should have sat until someone else bid equal or higher, but they said there was no other bidder so, well, they said they don't know.

But do you mean the reserve price?
I'm past the reserve on all of them, and place an auto bid of a price that I can afford and will pay if I win.

Why has my auto-bid jumped to its maximum?
If your auto-bid is below or equal to the reserve, your maximum auto-bid will be placed.

If an existing auto-bid is greater than yours, your auto-bid may also jump to it's maximum, and be immediately outbid.

Why did my auto-bid jump straight to the reserve price?
If your auto-bid exceeds the reserve, a bid will be placed equal to the reserve. You will then lead the bidding until your auto-bid is exceeded.

Why did my auto-bid bid against itself?
If another member places a bid equal to your auto-bid, your maximum auto-bid will be placed. It will appear as two consecutive bids from you. Auto-bids have priority over normal bids of the same value as they were placed earlier.
