851346 2010-01-24 09:40:00 Since having my broadband throttled down from Paradise/Telstra's PDQ to Launch plan (ie 256) due to congestion in our area, I have been having problems opeing PhotoBucket and YahooGroups' pages .

These pages take ages downloading, and when they finally do appear, they are just lists of text in a table, with no images showing (see screenshots attached) .

All my other surfing (so far) is fine . . . it is just these two sites .

I'm using IE 8 . 0, but it also happens in my Google Chrome browser . My computer runs Windows XP .

Any ideas?

851347 2010-01-24 12:26:00 Wow. Thats an odd one. Browsers don't usually hate specific web pages like that. Try going on some other high quality sites, like movie sites, to see if maybe it is not your broadband speed being supplied to you that is the problem. Web pages time out after a specific time, and stop downloading to prevent it from using extra download space on your plan.

Other than that, if that isn't the problem, then we will need more information. Start with your computer specifications, in case your computer is to slow.

851348 2010-01-24 21:00:00 I'll try that, and will report back .

I do indeed suspect it is to do with the broadband speed . I have had a major speed problem for the last month that was put down to congestion on the cabinet at the end of the street, but turned out to be a faulty port in the cabinet . Part of the 'fix' when Telstra/Paradise thought it was just congestion was to throttle my plan down from 'PDQ' to 'Launch' .

Computer itself, I would imagine, shouldn't be a problem because nothing has changed on it since this began to happen . Up till last year, the above two sites downloaded perfectly every time .

851349 2010-01-24 21:27:00 OK, the official movie site on www.avatarmovie.com is trying to open, but after nearly 30 minutes, it is still stuck at 83%, and not moving any further. While not expecting lightning speed on my 256 broadband connection, I would've expected faster than that.

A test on www.speedtest.net shows the following results:

Computer is a Dell Dimension 3100. Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz, 1.24GB RAM.

851350 2010-01-24 22:24:00 Thats 2260 kilobits per second (kbps) you're getting there, not 256kbps, so your streaming video should be working better than that, check your browser, WMP or video player settings. feersumendjinn (64)
851351 2010-01-24 23:00:00 Especially check your Inprivate Filtering (in IE8) under Safety item top right, or even your google toolbar settings for site blocking. feersumendjinn (64)
851352 2010-01-24 23:16:00 Try some different DNS servers (OpenDNS, GoogleDNS etc.) trinsic (6945)
851353 2010-01-25 01:10:00 I've got OpenDNS already ... I was half-thinking that might be the problem? Arteis (15553)
851354 2010-01-25 01:34:00 I had a look at InPrivate Filtering in IE8 . . . no change (also, bear in mind same problem was happening in Google Chrome, anyway) . I've also tired disabling the Google toolbar .

Other message boards (like this PressF1 one) download quite fast - it is only YahooGroups and Photobucket which seem to have the long download with funny formatting and no images .

851355 2010-01-25 02:35:00 Get rid of OpenDNS, personally I don't think using it is a good idea anyway and you're increasing load times slightly because you're not even remotely close to their servers (was just more or less seeing if it was a DNS issue). trinsic (6945)
