851175 2010-01-23 10:18:00 Downloaded and installed Avast 5 (Free).

Problems:

1. Current status says that my system is not fully protected - clicked 'Fix Now' but nothing happens.

2. Real Time Shield is OFF, clicked 'Turn On' - nothing happens

3. Mail Shield is OFF, clicked 'Turn On' - nothing happens

Have re-started 2 times but did not fix the problems.

Looks like it's going to be another AVG ?????

851176 2010-01-23 10:20:00 It does have probs (forum.avast.com). It looks like when you go to install it, do a custom install, and dont install the behavioural shield, whatever this is. Since this causes probs, inc crashes Speedy Gonzales (78)
851177 2010-01-23 10:38:00 Have uninstalled it; re-installed 4.8.

Don't have much confidence in MS's

851178 2010-01-23 10:54:00 MSSE out performs Avast in detections on every test I have done so far - working on a PC today, had Avast 4 - but it wasn't working as infections had disabled it.

Removed it with Revo, installed MSSE, still scanning but appears to be finding a few, it will be an over Nighter -500GB drive almost full.

851179 2010-01-24 01:35:00 Used Avast 4 for ages. Tried MSSE and it ground my computer to a crawl.( Vista sp2 with 2g mem). Went back to Avast and have just downloaded Avast 5. Working perfectly after I used the Avast removal utility to get rid of 4. Might be worth a try. Good luck..www.avast.com golfer (6609)
851180 2010-03-03 01:20:00 I am giving it a go now after trying MSE for a while. KiwiTT_NZ (233)
851181 2010-03-03 01:23:00 MSE maybe a better now (from when it first came out). Since its been updated twice. Would be nice to know WHAT the updates fix tho Speedy Gonzales (78)
851182 2010-03-03 01:35:00 Thats the problem I have with MSE it's not as clear what it protects.

AVAST 5 has all these different shields.

851183 2010-03-03 01:40:00 Its an anti-malware / antivirus / anti-spyware program. And scans removable drives, like USB flash drives. Obviously you still have to scan, like any other AV program. Only thing with Avast, from what I've read, V5 is worse than version 4.8 Speedy Gonzales (78)
851184 2010-03-03 03:41:00 I think the problems were with version 5.0.415 and .418 is now out. KiwiTT_NZ (233)
