| 752038 | 2009-02-28 20:40:00 | There is one HUGE thing a business needs. Cashflow. If it goes quiet or there are extra expenses or you have to move or whatever, having the money to ride it out will enable it to continue. I don't have great cashflow and what I do have is our shared personal money. I could risk it and use every last cent and then maybe find its grim for quite a while. I don't want to do that. I do not want to go back to having loads of debt after getting rid of it all. I've been made redundant a few times and have run shops (mine and not mine) before. None of which would lead to amazing riches. I have a couple of friends in similar situations, both of whom borrowed to buy their businesses and put their houses up as collateral. They can't afford to close and can't afford to stay open either. At least I'm not in that situation. It takes more than just passion Metla. My sons workplace (Charlies - Juice) sent all the production staff home the other day as they have stockpiles of product and a lack of sales. Watch that space. One of my suppliers already closed and another is probably going to soon. The farmers round here have mostly stopped with their expansions and renovations and so on. Fonterra is stockpiling milk powder. The smelter at Bluff asked some staff to take a 2 yr unpaid holiday. Another aquaintance in Mt Maunganui was managing a commercial painting business, its closed and he was told sorry, goodbye just recently. They had work coming out their ears at Xmas. Ditto my best friends work - a wholesale garden supplies place. At first they did a roaring trade, now its slowed. The owners have it for sale. And I don't intend to close the business, just the shop. It costs me $1700 a month for the thing (inc all) ------------------------------------------------------------ FEAR2: They wrecked it. It requires Steam. That may or may not put you off. I hate it. They removed the save games. It auto saves but not at the end of a level, at the start of the next. And it overwrites your previous save. That stuffed me up twice until I started ALT TABbing and backing them up separately. Its fairly easy though. I wasn't overly fussed on the weapons, they are OK, but my fav from FEAR 1 is gone. The mech suit thing is cool, they needed more of it, you only get to use it a couple of times. The story got worse, especially the silly ending. Which wasn't hard and I was expecting it to be. It wasn't as spooky (atmospheric?) Would I buy FEAR 3? Probably. Its still a good slaughter-fest. |

I've thought about it long and hard and I've decided that I do not want that worthless excuse for a computer program on my PC. I am not opposed to buying games, especially good games, but when it comes to things like STEAM, SecuROM, etc etc.. Then they can all get stuffed. I want a game that I can install wherever I like, run whenever I like, never have to go online if I don't want to, and updates are supplied by self-extracting executable files or MSI's in the usual way that have been around for years and I can download them with Getright from 5 mirrors at once and get a download speed faster than 15KB/s (Yes, I'm looking at you, Steam) Did I mention that the above method actually results in playable games?? My experience with Steam after buying Half Life 2. (www.imagef1.net.nz) Exactly. (especially the last bit) |

| 752042 | 2009-02-28 22:04:00 | I don't know people in the sales side, but do know those in the hospitality / restaurant side. Being a small shop, is always difficult, not sure about centre city cos they have largely quit that and gone into suburbs since they are near retirement, that has been pretty stable or stable low revenue to make ends meet but cos they have worked before in the city and they own the property they don't need to pay rent, also that food expenses and kitchen power expenses they tend to share it from work and not need to go on the dole. Minus cost, they may only earn $200 a week. For the normal office jobs side of things. I have noticed that the Dominion Post's job section now is rather thin. Org's are clamping down on payrises, projects are being re-evaluated if they should continue or if they should be put on hold, contract staff may not be renewed, I know when I got my new job just before Xmas, they were very happy to let me go, that was the condition when I signed up with them before, but the point is that after I left, they didn't hire a replacement, further to that 2 other specialist contractors contracts are to lapse (1 has already). I think some sectors are still going strong like the centre city - restaurant and bar. |

| 752044 | 2009-02-28 22:11:00 | Steam: . . . After I uninstalled Steam and the games on it a few years ago, a little while later I found the Steam folder and it was 13gb . . . Was even too big for the recycle bin . Crap that was . |

You will have to put yourself on a million dollar a year salary first though but that's ok - there doesn't have to be any logical connection between the CEO salary and your company's financial struggle. |
