751266 2009-03-07 04:06:00 The problem was that the person who had the highest bid told the seller that she did an auto bid of $30.55, and when the other bidder bid up to $20.01, the bid then jumped her up to her highest bid....and there seems to be no bidder below her at $30...that's what I am saying!

I suspect that "shadowbrookfarm" had an autobid in for $30 or, from the pattern, $30.01.... Outbid by "ashleigh99" with an autobid of $30.55.

But I agree with other posters, Trademe could easily (and should) show ALL bids, ideally with an indicator as to whether the bid was manual or auto, although the autobids would probably have the same timestamp, so that would be indicative of the bid type....

751267 2009-03-07 04:26:00 Yeah, I think that's what it is.
But I agree with you guys in that Trade Me should show all bids, then there wouldn't be all this confusion!! :(

751268 2009-03-07 11:53:00 That would cause more confusion and arguments than you think.

You could end having two or two hundred people all with the highest bid.

Yes and no - if the rules were clearly spelt out, there shouldn't be a problem.

Graysonline runs a similar system. If you are the first to bid on an item, your bid of $50 takes precedence over someone who started biding later who also bids $50. All bids are displayed.

751270 2009-03-08 02:19:00 Can't see what the fuss is all about. If there is an existing autobid higher than your current bid then TM tells you that. All relevant bidding is shown, there are no secret or hidden bids but when autobids are in play, they just don't show all the incremental bids that are irrelevant to the outcome.

Sure it sometimes looks like you are bidding against yourself but in the end the winning bid is always shown along with the bidders name.

This thread is rather Shakespearian.

751271 2009-03-08 03:25:00 Comic or tragic? Possibly a combination of both... johcar (6283)
751272 2009-03-08 04:51:00 Well, I was trying to find out what was happening, as Trade Me could not tell me, so for those that have been helpful, thank you. The others, well, thank not. greyghost (14654)
751273 2009-03-09 07:53:00 I've had the same problems, I personally think it has a lot to do with the seller, ie. the seller using another registered account and bidding their way till it matches the auto-bid.:mad::mad: craigsweet (14655)
751274 2009-03-09 09:27:00 Yeah, I have suspected that many a time, reported it and the auctions closed!
But they do get away with it! :(
