752182 2009-03-02 02:56:00 The reviews are generally more for PS3 or Xbox360, rather than PC. the_bogan (9949)
752183 2009-03-02 02:58:00 May not be your thing, but I typically find the GTA series of games excellent value for money.

I'm still messing around with GTA IV after a couple of months of playing and still haven't finished the main story line. Similarly when I played through GTA: SA.

752184 2009-03-02 02:59:00 I did submit an article to the above mentioned magazine - but not even an acknowledgment was received.

Clue: Specialists with writing skills are in great demand for technical publications...

752185 2009-03-02 07:24:00 I started and finished COD5 the other day, and it was fairly awesome. The single player mode wasn't as polished as in COD4, and neither was it as involving. Which puts it at a "Recommended" and not a "Must Have", which 4 sits at.

Multi player is bound to be awesome, might play a bit tonight.

Multiplayer in CoD5 is ok - though I don't think it is as good as CoD4. The weapon range in CoD5 is not as balanced (not counting the damned P90 in CoD4 of course...)

If you can find a good bolt-action-only server in CoD5 then that is a real challenge.

752187 2009-03-02 08:41:00 However, Nazi Zombies is simply amazing (especially 4 player online)

I do however prefer the maps (some) in CoD5 to CoD4, and some things are more balanced (perks etc)

Also, what makes it even better is the region filter so I don't have to play laggy games with Americans.

752188 2009-03-02 18:47:00 Well Ive played the games i wanted to, FC2, Cod4 etc
But Im kinda over those types. Just after reading Dean asking Pctek about FEAR2 was wondering if there are any interesting games around?

I keep finding myself going back and replaying older games, the new ones dont seem to have any real guts. Some are just flash for the sake of being flash. Id really love a decent horror one.

What platform are you looking at? 360, PS3 or PC?

If its 360, if ya have live you can download the demos and play them before you buy the game.

752189 2009-03-02 22:07:00 Millions upon millions of dollars is spent on modeling traffic flows in large cities too. It's still boring. Just like technical drawing programs. Who wants to read about boring things (other than the small percentage of people who find them interesting....)?

Just because it's important doesn't mean it's interesting.

There are specialist publications for people that find their niches interesting. General magazines are for general readerships and publish on general subjects.

The millions of people who spend their money on games don't care if some people think it's a waste.

Some good points Deane, even if I do not agree.
What you find boring I find fascinating, interesting, and challenging.
I just don't understand how people can waste their money on games which frankly have been great fun for the designer.

Reminds me of the time I was a designer for Mattel the toy people. Most of us readily admitted we thoroughly enjoyed designing the various toys but most we would not consider buying for our own children.
Our voice units for instance were chemically bonded on assembly so no kid could get into them Some rival German units had screws holding them together. They could be easily opened up. Probably now would be considered dangerous as the small bits could be swallowed.
Just to finish I used to regard PCW as a specialist magazine. Strangely I still do as many of the very technical articles are beyond me now.
Still waiting for that TD series of articles to get me grinning like a Cheshire cat.

Oh PC for me. Maybe Im just getting over the whole gaming thing I think.

Although I still challenge my mates to rugby 2005 while on the turps.

There you go - CAD may well be important but it is often used to design the utterly inane.

Games are not a waste of money any more than any other form of entertainment is a waste of money. Humans crave entertainment - it's a basic need.

If you want to be an ascetic - well, fine - you may feel more at home in a monastry though.
