751616 2009-02-27 05:30:00 We have to stop selling our companies etc to overseas companies (in the Swazi case) Australia as they have no loyalty to NZ.

Eg a few years ago I was doing a bit of fund raising for a charity. I rang a greetings card company in Auckland who said they were now owned by an Australian company.

I phoned the Australian head office and the very nice lady told me that they don't donate outside Australia ! (whereas most NZ companies will donate to NZ charities)

Swazi is still NZ owned, the Army contracts are handled by an Australian company and its they who have given the new contract to China.

Agreed. The MPs of which there are 120 or so only pass laws that civil servants devise. We have far too many Members of Parliament given the population we have in my opinion.

I keep on saying that we need to reduce the number of civil servants as I am almost certain their payroll exceeds that of the entire Parliament.

Goes off to check this. In my opinion some civil servants are not civil and nor do some of them serve and the general public do not get to vote any civil servant out. If you are a civil servant your job relies on the State Services Comission and you can be moved into another Department regardless if you make a stuff up.

If I make a stuff up ( which I have done ) then I could be made redundant or not. At least if I tell the truth the employer would wear it or not.

This is still true of New Zealand in my opinion.

751619 2009-02-27 08:21:00 It was certainly true in the 80s when Treasury officials were responsible for steering the so-called Labour govt. down the right-wing path of selling off public assets that the people of NZ had paid for.

So what has changed today where Treasury Officials get to advise the new National Govt. Can't forecast Income or Expenses in any event. The treasury is told that we have to keep a low inflation rate. They can't do a budget where they can forecast the total income in any event. In the event the unemployment rate goes up then I would expect tax income to go down as a result. Less workers paying tax.

My budget does not allow me to have fillet steak and champagne on a suasage and beer income.

And I am told that National is still going to spend $1.5 billion on the Internet.

We also get told that John Key is inclined toward a cycle way through the whole of NZ. This after the Job summit today. He also wants to use funds from the so-called Cullen Fund which has lost money to a large extent.

We (excluded me, as I did NOT vote) elected them. Who is to be blamed? Blame all those who went to vote on that day. Knowing that they a a bunch of people who only care for their own pockets and yet wasted your time, petrol, etc., etc., to vote for them - whoever they were, National or Labour, they are all the same.
