| 751246 | 2009-02-26 01:29:00 | Yes, but that's what I'm saying, if someone else bid, they would have shown up on the bidding chart....eg.... Auction Number: 204458463 You have an auto-bid up to $65.00 amount date time bidder $65.00 25 Feb 10:24 pm greyghost_84 (171 ) $31.00 22 Feb 11:42 pm greyghost_84 (171 ) $30.00 22 Feb 9:45 pm jon2221 (578 ) The RESERVE WAS $20 people!!! Please, I'm not silly. The reserve was $20, which was met!!!! That is why something unknown has happened. I would have been happy if it was the reserve price, as it would solve my problem and I wouldn't be here. |

It may appear that you are bidding against yourself, but your autobid is simply being elevated up to either the reserve price, or your maximum autobid price, whichever is the LOWER price. Once over the reserve, you'll see the autobidding behave in a more understandable manner. You could look at it this way... up until the reserve is met, the seller is effectively bidding against you to get the price up to the reserve. These 'bids' aren't displayed by the system. Yeah, it's not ideal, but it's not completely stupid either. A better implementation is probably possible, but those with influence on Trademe have for one reason or another decided not to bother with it. As my above post, the reserve was $20....so my bid shouldn't have jumped that high! |

What pctek is saying, is that someone else bid $65, which caused your auto-bid to trigger, and since your auto-bid was placed first, yours took precedence over theirs. That's why theirs isn't showing up, but yours is. |

| 751249 | 2009-02-26 01:52:00 | Oh, so if someone else bids $65, they wont show on the bid chart? That's weird, cause it shows all other bids, but not the bidder that bid $65! Oh well. Thank you 'somebody' I think I understand now! :) |

Thank you 'somebody' I think I understand now! :) It's a bit of a strange system - if I were designing it, I would have it show that bidder as placing a bid of $64.50, and then you immediately above them at $65 - that way it'd avoid the confusion it's caused. |

| 751251 | 2009-02-26 02:13:00 | I am now not a fan of auto bids, if I see them on an auction I click them up to their auto bid just like people used to do to me when I used them. | prefect (6291) | ||
| 751252 | 2009-02-26 02:19:00 | I agree, it seems a bit suspect to me.....if the reserve or starting bid is met, then ALL bids should be displayed!..... What pctek is saying, is that someone else bid $65, which caused your auto-bid to trigger, and since your auto-bid was placed first, yours took precedence over theirs. That's why theirs isn't showing up, but yours is. I dont think this is correct at all....I am quite certain that I have had a bid bettered, but both mine and the better bid are displayed... |

I dont think this is correct at all....I am quite certain that I have had a bid bettered, but both mine and the better bid are displayed... What I'm suggesting is that both bids were the same - hence only greyghost's was shown. Refer back to what pctek quoted: Why did my auto-bid bid against itself? If another member places a bid equal to your auto-bid, your maximum auto-bid will be placed. It will appear as two consecutive bids from you. Auto-bids have priority over normal bids of the same value as they were placed earlier. If one was higher than the other, then it would be simple. |

Refer back to what pctek quoted: If one was higher than the other, then it would be simple . You would still think it would display both bids, perhaps with a note to say that 1 bid was placed before the other . Perhaps trade mes systems, can't cope with that sort of detail . I do think it is quite confusing, and agree with the poster . The worrying thing is that Trade Me staff also don't appear to know the systems . When I have emailed them I have always got a reply within the day, so they are pretty good at replying, unlike ISPs such as Vodafone or Xnet who never reply to the emails I have sent them . |
