| 851848 | 2010-01-27 00:46:00 | I'm interested to hear from anyone who is using / has used Slingshots Next Big Thing plans (esp the one with the free data between 1am and 7am). .. Are the speeds good on both normal surfing / download during 7am to 1am and what is the "free data" downloading time like? Thanks in advance. I'm on slingshot, the downloading between 1am - 7am is good, i get decent speeds and on certain nights have done up to anywhere between 1-2gigs to 6-7 gigs in the 6 hours. surfing speeds in the day have been perfectly fine, free data times are good, got the computer here turn it self on at 12.55am and got downloads scheduled to start at 1am. |

| 851849 | 2010-01-27 09:19:00 | I'm using slingshot (6Gb/month plan), I found downloading between the free off-peak time is very SLOW, especially p2p download. I normally get less than 10 kb/s. I reckon they restrict the p2p download speed during this so call 'free off-peak' time. | aklthomas (12936) | ||
| 851850 | 2010-01-27 20:07:00 | After going through about 10 ISP's in the past few years I have reluctantly reached the conclusion that there's no such thing as a "good" ISP. The only difference between them is the quality of their service and the number of lies they tell you. Where I live I have no option. All ISP's use the Telecom lines etc. And they all offer "as fast as your lines can take". Which is a blatant lie. Price wise there is no difference. They all have their fancy plans and word them differently, but they all work out costing you the same. My last two ISP's: Xnet. They were good originaly. I was downloading at about 4500 kbps for close to two years and was happy with that. Then they start their fanciful night rate plan. Immediately my d/l speed dropped to under 3500 kbps. and never again got any faster. My irate phone calls produced the answer. "You speed is not capped. You are getting all your line can take." The fact that speed had dropped 25% overnight never got a satisfactory answer. Just mumblings about "blame Telecom". When I closed my account with them and payed my final account, I was surprised to get a bill from them each month. I phoned their accounts dept. and was told I was still connected to them. In other words their technical people had not told accounts I was gone. So accounts said I had to pay.Now 12 months later I get a letter telling me I owe them $40 dollars and they have handed it over to the debt collectors and if I don't pay it will ruin my credit rating. That gave me a good laugh. At my age what does a good credit rating mean? I haven't asked for credit for years. Now I'm with Orcon. They started off well. Then I started getting dropped several times a day. After humoring them by going through the basic setup routine at least six times and trying four routers I ordered a fancy router from them for $5 a month. This cured the drop offs, BUT it reduced my d/l speed to about 2000 kbps. I'm not far off more complaints:yuck: I've reached the conclusion there is no such thing as a good ISP. Some are just worse than others! Jack |

This is the only reason I have stuck with Telecom. Changing ISP is to much of a crap shoot as to the quality over a year or 2. Better the devil you know. |

That's the way it is, either take it or leave it! |
