2010-01-25 19:49:00 | From the info I have, as the cabinets are being upgraded to ADSL2+ they are also rolling out line-based authentication, such that the basic services assigned to the line are available on the line regardless of user-level authentication. However, any account-level functions (assigned static IPs, or any other such features) require user-level authentication to function. Yeah thats what I figured, but wasn't sure that Orcon was doing this already, I guess they are. --- I've reset the router to default (factory settings) and tried to re-configure it. Also tried doing a factory reset with the reset button on the back. Neither worked. I'm starting to think this is one of those problems that will not get fixed and will remain a mystery.

Well I really don't know what is happening. As I say I had just flashed the firmware yesterday, rebooted and I thought lets go configure the DSL-302G. I was quite surprised when I opened the browser and my home page appeared but thought I was probably getting it from the cache. Did the 10.1.1.1. thing and found that that I was using user @xtra (user@xtra) and the password was blank. I thought well it works so I will leave it. Email is Outlook but that is set up with the correct name and password in account settings. The modem was originally set at myusername@xadsl.extra.co.nz but now I have it set at myusername@xtra.co.nz. Go figure. |

2010-01-25 20:59:00 | My ISP and Landline provider is vodafone, does not need a user name or password. Maybe if the phone line was Xtra, Vodafone would need a password. | mzee (3324) | |
2010-01-25 22:11:00 | I suppose that could be a factor, if the lines are with Telecom or the ISP. --- Anyone have any idea on why the Belkin doesn't work?

2010-01-25 23:39:00 | Actually, I now recall that the user@xtra.co.nz is in fact their setup username, as I remember question this 1 other time when their stupid CD failed on setup! | SolMiester (139) | |
2010-01-26 01:40:00 | The modem was originally set at myusername@xadsl.extra.co.nz but now I have it set at myusername@xtra.co.nz. Go figure. Neither of these are valid Xtra Broadband connection account names. The correct format should be username.xadsl@xtra.co.nz

2010-01-26 03:31:00 | When mine was installed at my new place a year ago, the engineer told me to put anything at all in the user and leave the password blank if I wanted as there is no longer any user authentication (this is for Xtra). All traffic is measured/charged based on the line, not the user. Can't recall whether the user name had to be in the normal xtra username format (username.xadsl@xtra.co.nz) or if it was free format - suspect it was the former though. | Miami Steve (2128) | |
2010-01-26 21:49:00 | All xtra supplied modems come with a generic username, now, thus no need to input your userid/pwd. Confused me for a while, though! Like others have said, they tie to your account via the phone/port connection.
