752087 2009-03-03 00:25:00 Just on this note and in relation to a question from Myth.

If I were back in the business of assembling and selling PC's, I'd add $800 to the price, target business customers, and sell them on the basis that they bought a package not a computer, That package would be the level of service and back up, guaranteed for 3 years.

At the end of the 3 year period I'd push them towards a new computer which would renew the service agreement.

752088 2009-03-03 00:44:00 Certainly good value for the end user. If a user is going to trawl pricespy and always go for the absolute cheapest price, they're going to run into issues sooner or later.

I believe that is why some stores are no longer listed on Pricespy, due to horrible reputation! ;)

Personally, if Im going to suggest somebody go see a PC Repairman, it'll be one who has the after-sale service, and isnt interested in the quick-buck, but a long-term customer / supplier relationship :)

Good idea. And as I have mentioned before see a local person! Like pctek or Metla for example depending on where you live. I have one person here who calls me sometimes at 9 or 10 pm and I can get there in under 10 minutes. Last issue was that he changed his password to the ISP but did not change the password in the adsl modem.

752093 2009-03-03 05:05:00 yep about 3 yrs and they start to crap out. HDD seizes, power supply goes on holiday ram gets burnt, then cd dvd drive sh!@# itself. When ya fixed all them the motherboard sucks a big one.
Although the case seems seems to hack it alright.

meh. For cheapos like me I just buy stuff from whereever its cheapest, then build it myself. Would be attractive from the end users point of view though, free after services and help with their new PC etc

A well built and maintained computer can last years. My parents purchased an old PC Direct computer in 1996, lasted until 2002 (before hard drive died :()

The successor to that pc is still running (purchased in 2002).
