851561 2010-01-24 22:28:00 Hi Guys, After I log into windows Vista home premium, the desktop appears, and I am able to move my mouse around, but i cant click anything, the start menu does not light up when i hover above it, and it does not respond when i click it. Same applies to everything else on my desktop. Sometimes it responds after 30/40 seconds, but mostly it just hangs, and I have to power off/restart externally.

I also got the "Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog" and "Failure - Security Options" with it.

I also got the blue screen last night and it told me "Driver_Power_state_failure"

It manages to run in safe mode, but is slower than usual.

Thinking it could be a virus, ive fully scanned it with Avast, and a trial version of Nod32, Avast found no threats, and Nod32 froze at 89%

Google searches said the problem could be with the Hard Disk, so i did a schelduded a check disk. During Startup the computer seemed to complete it within seconds and said the volume was clean, surely it cant check it that fast? Ive also checked the HDD Cables are plugged in properly, still no resolution.

What could be the problem and how can I solve this?

Just in case you need to know:
Vista Home Premium
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200
WD Caviar Black 500gb
2x2gb Corsair RAM
Asus P5Q Premium

Thanks in Advance
Sir Prospect (14735)
851562 2010-01-24 23:30:00 How many av programs do you have running?
Conflicts between them could be the cause of your problems,
"Logon...." and "Failure - security...." especially; your BSOD could point to this also as AV progs need their own drivers to work, did the BSOD mention a fault in any file.
Do a HiJack This log and post it here.

No, should take ages, did you check both items, in the requester box?
www.imagef1.net.nz

Also check your Event viewer (in Control Panel> Administrative tools) for any errors at the time of your problem, copy and paste them here.

851564 2010-01-25 00:11:00 Looks like there's 4 things that can cause that error, and the slowness

1. AVG
2. Threatfire
3. Nortons Internet security / patch it installed
4. hdd is starting to fail

851565 2010-01-25 01:51:00 Something peculiar is going on, i left the computer for like 30 minutes after startup and returned, and its working fine in normal mode.

Speedy Gonazales: i dont have any of those programs, the HDD could be a reason

feersumendjinn: yes i did, it said it had scheduled it for next restart, which I did immediately.

feersumendjinn: Heres the log
