| 853215 | 2010-01-28 23:44:00 | Hi I would like to know how you can remove the GRUB bootloader from start up but still being able to access that version of Linux using the MS bootloader. I know I could use Wubi to install it inside Windows but if Windows becomes corrupt I won't have access to it. |

You can however use it to chainload a linux bootloader - e.g. grub (this is the method alluded to by fred_fish's link). Out of interest, what do you have against grub, and why do you want to get rid of it? |

I have nothing against the GRUB boot loader, it's just that I have a network adapter that needs a driver to use on Windows and Ubuntu can use it but not to its full potential. The main reason I have GRUB and Ubuntu is because with my old adapter it would cut out lots in Windows and hardly ever in Ubuntu. So now MS is my main OS again since I have this but I'll still keep Ubuntu if possible for when MS does fail. |

| 853220 | 2010-01-29 09:47:00 | Pretty much but the GRUB boot loader goes to the MS boot loader after choosing that and would like the order changed or integrate them into one or the other. | Civic (15464) | ||

| 853222 | 2010-01-29 10:16:00 | As Erayd said, the Windows bootloader will not boot linux directly so Grub is what you want to go with. Just set the Windows entry to be the default boot option for grub. If you only have one entry in the Win loader you should not even see it. |

| 853223 | 2010-02-01 03:22:00 | I don't have just one entry in the Win loader I have 3, Win Vista (default), Win 7 RC, and a corrupt version of Ubuntu which I should delete. And how do I make the Windows entry the default in GRUB anyway? (Basic user of Linux so don't know the power of GRUB. |

| 853224 | 2010-02-01 20:01:00 | ...And how do I make the Windows entry the default in GRUB anyway?Open the file '/boot/grub/menu.lst' in your favourite text editor. Somewhere near the top of it you should see a line beginning with 'default' - usually this will be 'default 0'. Change the '0' to whatever number represents the entry of the OS you want to start by default. OS entries are counted from the top down, starting from zero (i.e. to boot the second entry, you'd use 'default 1'). Each OS entry starts with a 'title' line. |
