852534 2010-01-27 06:18:00 In the spring I bought a Toshiba M300-900 laptop. It came with voucher to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium, which after some persistence I got. Other than taking an age to boot up, it has been fine.

However, now it has developed a 'glitch'. When I try to turn it off, the screen shows the following message:
'Preparing to Configure Windows.
Do not turn off your computer'.

Then it dithers for ages (well, probably not that long, but I am impatient) - and eventually does turn off. I usually force it to shut down. I did say I am impatient!

Solutions?? :)

852535 2010-01-27 06:53:00 Did you install any updates before this? Speedy Gonzales (78)
852536 2010-01-27 07:13:00 Only automatic ones... Oh darn.

But, after a few starts and shutdowns all seems ok again. Here's hoping.

Thanks, Speedy. :)

852537 2010-01-27 07:20:00 was this an upgrade "in place" or a fresh install with the upgrade disk?? robsonde (120)
852538 2010-01-27 07:47:00 I got an upgrade disc from Toshiba in Oz - I expected the whole thing to take about an hour and 6 and a half hours later it finished! And worked!!

Everything has been fine until this last week . It is aggravating having to take so long to boot up, though . Every now and then I think I must do something about it . I suppose it is all the Toshiba stuff (and I don't think I use any of it) .

Up till recently, closing down has be very quick, though .
