753198 2009-03-04 04:14:00 What does PF1 actually look like now without adblocking/scripts? I'm on glacial dialup and I dare not try..

Screenies anyone?

753200 2009-03-04 04:20:00 Yup I see no ads at all in IE or FF.

I just use privoxy, IE7Pro, and flashblock/adblock

If adblock/flashblock/IE7Pro doesnt block it, privoxy will

753201 2009-03-04 04:57:00 Quite agree, Peter.

I was at a loss to understand what the fuss was about. I too, use Firefox Adblock Plus and because of that excellent tool I was not aware (and am still not aware) of these offending ads as I do not see them.

Frankly, I'm surprised at the complaint. Many of the people who joined in the chorus of complaints know much more about PCs, and therefore I would have thought, blocking ads, than I do. I can't understand why everyone would not have ad blocking in place. It can't be difficult - even I have it.:waughh:

Bear in mind that some people are stuck using IE6, and installing programs/addons is not an option on a work, um, can't even call it a PC. Dumb terminal?

Tragedy?
Being charitable, I try to think of it more as a comedy - Probably a comedy of errors. When I inadvertently spot the unexpurgated version it does tend to shock me to the depths of my tender soul.
I am aware that advertising is intended to sway my purchasing decisions - it does. I am in need of a cordless mouse - I do recall that mock peel ads in the magazine were for Logitech. That puts them off my list of possible brands. A small sale to lose, but it is 100% of my mouse purchases for this week and in the next week or two there will be another mouse and keyboard that Logitech will not be selling.

753204 2009-03-04 06:29:00 I just sent an email to Jan Birkland.

I said I am going to stay away from Press F1 for 2 weeks, to save my sanity.

See you in 2 weeks guys

753205 2009-03-04 06:53:00 Firefox, Adblock Plus, turn off images .

Works for me .

Quite agree, Peter .

I was at a loss to understand what the fuss was about . I too, use Firefox Adblock Plus and because of that excellent tool I was not aware (and am still not aware) of these offending ads as I do not see them .

I too gave up, until I started using Firefox and Adblock .
Now no problems thank the lord .

Yup I see no ads at all in IE or FF .

I just use privoxy, IE7Pro, and flashblock/adblock

If adblock/flashblock/IE7Pro doesnt block it, privoxy willIt would appear certain members just don't quite get the point of this thread .
Yesssss . . . you can use blah application/plugin/whatever to block the ads . But really, why should we?

It's just the nature of free message boards .

Unless you want to start paying for them (open cup-holder, insert Visa card, close cup-holder and press the Any key) you're going to encounter ads .
Seriously; I've seen warez sites/forums with less advertising than this computer-help forum . Ironic really

753206 2009-03-04 07:06:00 TBH-Most that ask for help in this forum are probably incredibly frustrated just to post.

I reckon this ad issue is driving away members, especially newbies who know nothing of Adblock+/Privoxy etc

753207 2009-03-04 07:17:00 I loaded the site up on my phone once and it crashed it in about 5s flat. Saw what seemed like 50 ads and then the browser closed down cos it was taking too much memory. beeswax34 (63)
