Internet toughness

I wasn't trying to promote anything.....

Just trying to be helpful..
Good intentions but the internet = anonymity and we have no way of knowing you have the right experience on such a touchy subject. What you are doing may lead a trusting person to a large crack.

Don't take it to heart, as I said internet = anonymity and it's a magnifying glass that makes people think their balls are bigger behind it.

I tend to agree with roddy_boy - I just wouldn't place any financial trust with a person who can't differentiate between "your" and "you're".

753517 2009-03-05 19:19:00 hey guys,

If anyone needs help on how to budget, or wants to know about investing in the stock market... Anything long those lines

Post what your after i will do a blog about it.

Let's see:
Budget - spend less than you earn = happy finances.
Spend more than you earn = sad finances.

Buys shares when they are cheap, sell them when they have gone up but before the company gets caught out doing dodgy parctices and it all goes down the toilet.

Simple isn't it?

And its "along those lines", not "long those lines."

The flaw in this argument is knowing when they are 'cheap'. 'Cheap' is akin to 'undervalued' or 'at a low'. This sort of thing can only be known in hindsight. What may appear cheap to one buyer, by definition, has to appear worth selling to another, because there is a seller for every buyer.

@NZFunk : Tough crowd isn't it? You hit the nail on the head with your earlier reply about witticisms etc. Furthermore, people who don't understand altruism ascribe their own greedy little motivations to your actions because they don't have any concept of trying to help others. Small boys with big internet connections feeling staunch and secure - pathetic isn't it?

Anyhoo - what is your opinion as to where stock prices are headed over the next year or two? And what is your view on some of the deeply discounted bank guaranteed debt securities on the NZDX? Worth looking at or too risky? Are you willing to put your head on the block and make some stock market picks? Lastly, what sort of strategy/tactics would you promote in a bear market like we are seeing nowadays?

Cheers
Andrew

P.S. someone asked earlier about owning your own home. I know a fellow who makes a living out of playing the markets. He purposely doesn't own his own home because he knows he can make more money from investing in various markets and securities instead of buying a house. IMO not owning a home isn't a valid reason for making an assessment of someone's financial astuteness.

753519 2009-03-06 00:12:00 I wasn't claiming to give the secrets to millions...

I was just offering complete newbies the chance to get a perspective from someone who has been trading on the stock market since I was 19 averaging 23% growth each year. Just wanted to give them some tips starting out..

23% is exceptional; even the experts can't get it right which is why we are in this economic mess.
I second Andrew93:
what are your current picks? Or would you even -CONSIDER- entering the market now?

753520 2009-03-06 00:32:00 The world is full of financial advisors and greedy people.

I for one like pcteks' advice.
If you earn $1.00 and only spend 90% you get to keep 10 cents.

Some film stars earn millions for a single picture. Does make them all happier than the rest of us?

IMO they would be a lot happier than us...if the media left them alone

753522 2009-03-06 01:13:00 If I want financial advice I would not take it from an internet forum, from some anonymous advisor called "NZfunk" who claims to know what he is talking about and whose only qualification is a single claim of a percentage figure earned on the stock market.

So far, he has yet to say anything knowledgeable about anything - let alone finances.
