| 752653 | 2009-03-02 05:06:00 | Ok, here goes, My workmate has come up with an idea for a website and basically wants to know what it's going to cost to set up . The idea is this: The site would contain a webcam image of a coastal location and would update the image say once every minute . Also surf and fishing conditions would be available in text format . It would be updated twice a day and would feature forecasts and current weather conditions . Obviously not much thought has gone into this so far, but this is where the idea is at at the moment . This is how I think it would work: A web server would run at his batch 24/7, with the webcam and a weather station attached . They would send data to the web server . That's as far as I have got so far! Thoughts / comments appreciated . |

| 752656 | 2009-03-02 05:59:00 | once you have a camera setup and a way of wirelessly uploading (assuming your bach is away from cities etc) there would be only the tiny cost of web hosting. to pay a web designer to set this up wouldnt be much either, you basically need 2 scripts 1. Autop upload the image 2. To easily edit weather conditions Id have a crack at it but itd be new stuff to me, PM if keen I wouldnt have a server setup in a remote location, you want the best speeds possible form the server but it wouldnt matter so much how quick the speed between the camera and the server was |

| 752662 | 2009-03-02 07:13:00 | oh im a thinker alright. how much is this guy willing to spend? settin a wireless link between server and camera could cost a wee bit. id guess you would need an internet connection. Anyone have any ideas that would eliminate the need for internet? |
