852749 2010-01-27 23:56:00 OK your troops – have one more to see if you can help on!
Outlook 07 – W7 Pro – imported all the files via Windows Easy Transfer from an XP Outlook 03. The address book entries are all there (come up when start to type a name) – all in the Contacts list but when go to a new message and To… there is no list of names to select from! If try Advanced search it says “The Search cannot be completed – you must have a list to search in” etc.
What am I doing wrong here?!
This is the second install for this PC after a component failure and all worked well with the initial transfer.
Thanks

852750 2010-01-28 00:57:00 You should have exported contacts from whatever PC (from OL), then imported them into OL 07. It doesnt look like that transfer wizard transferred any contacts Speedy Gonzales (78)
852751 2010-01-28 01:34:00 Seems to be expecting to connect to an Exchange server.
Check the options for "Mail Support" ie. 'Internet Mail Only' 'Corporate' although I don't know if this still applies to OL07.
See if there is anywhere in addressbook options to choose the backend store for contacts.
If they are in the 'Contacts' folder make sure "Show this folder as an email address book" or similar is ticked under the folder 'Properties'.

852752 2010-01-28 02:43:00 Thanks for that but where is the folder Properties you mention? Would prefer not to have to go messing round in Outlook folders – think that would be a minefield!
Cheers

852753 2010-01-28 03:34:00 Easiest bet would have been to export the complete pst file, that brings across all the mail as well as the Contacts.

If you wanted just the Contacts, Open Outlook on the old PC, Go to File> Import and Export> Export to a file (Click next) Comma Separated Values (windows)> Locate the Contacts in the list > Select then click next, Browse to someplace you will find them , desktops good> Keep clicking Next when finished there will be a file called Contacts.CSV where ever you saved it.

Take the csv file and put it on the New Install, then open Outlook, File> import and Export>Import from another file or program>Comma Separated Values ( windows)>browse to the CSV file, follow through -- Contacts imported.

Had to do this twice yesterday :p

In outlook with folder view open, right-click on the 'contacts' folder and click 'properties'.
Look for an option to "Show this folder as an email address book"
Can't be precise as names & locations (and maybe even existence) of option may have changed in 07 (currently looking at OL2k on this machine!! :))

852755 2010-01-28 22:34:00 Thanks for your help - got to that option but as you can see from the attached screen dump it is "greyed' out!
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

852757 2010-01-28 22:45:00 Go to tools>address book>tools>options and select contacts as show this address list 1st and select your contacts. SolMiester (139)
852758 2010-01-28 23:40:00 Have already tried importing via a file and as say the contact are all there.
And tried: Go to tools>address book>tools>options and select contacts as show this address list 1st and select your contacts. - and can see from the attached dump - there is nothing there!!
Thanks everyone - not sure what to try next!
