1446827 2018-02-27 18:49:00 My J5 samsung phone's storage is full, so I added a 2GB SD card to it, but it continues to complain that the storage is full.

How do I 'tell' the phone to use the SD card for storage?

Android gurus, please help.

Cheers

1446829 2018-02-27 20:37:00 Presume this has 8GB storage? I've had same problem with wife's J5. Also, granddaughter's. Considering the OS takes about 7GB of the 8, you get the problem. And you can't delete the bloatware to fix it.

I have rooted our J5 and managed to delete enough to get it to stop complaining but was prepared to bin it and replace it if things went awry.

If moving photos to SD card doesn't get rid of the whining, you have few options, I'm afraid.

1446830 2018-02-27 21:18:00 I forgot which version of android supported storing apps to sd but it was after version 4.

You normally need a program called app2sd to be able to shift "some" apps to sd card but its only a temporary solution that slows the out of storage issue. You really want a phone with larger storage to not encounter this problem.

1446831 2018-02-27 21:27:00 I tried a selection of Android apps to shift apps and data to my SD card when I had the same trouble with my Samsung J1. There is so much stuff that cannot be moved this was largely a waste of time. Secondly you can delete txts and WhatsApp messages and that frees up quite a bit of space. Thirdly you can uninstall apps that you don't need/use. Finally, go to apps manager in settings and delete all caches, some of which (eg Google's) are huge. This turns out to be a temporary measure because they fill up again really quickly.

After faffing around like this several times, I gave up and upgraded my phone to one with more RAM... 8Mb of memory is nowhere near enough as someone else has suggested.

1446832 2018-03-07 03:57:00 At the end of the day, 8GB is really not enough. 16GB minimum ROM size for android these days. Wish the manufacturer's would stop making phones that low spec. it's like those terrible laptops with a dual core celeron and 32GB MMC storage. They are a total waste of time, and cause nothing but frustration. wratterus (105)
