1448382 2018-04-17 09:04:00 Ok, so why have fallen trees caused such a lengthy outage?

Not an outage. A whole bunch of them. Trees were only some of them.

Council CANNOT block power line tree removal actually. And council relaxed the rules somewhat on trees too now.

I'd still like mine down, but sadly I doubt I could find someone to do such a thing for $100....

1448383 2018-04-17 10:24:00 Try to find some climbers (abseilers) who would like to practice their climbing skills and at the same time cut down your tree, we had two guys here in Sydenham who would cut down and take away large trees for $400. zqwerty (97)
1448384 2018-04-17 19:45:00 probably because there is quite a number of breaks on each ring and probably breaks on the feeders to the rings.
and then theres the sheer tonnage of wood to be cut up and moved.

Call me “old fashioned” but we used to do whatever necessary to restore power, (even if the repairs were only temporary) and then clean up the mess. :)

1448385 2018-04-21 06:12:00 A mate of mine, (who I’ve mentioned in other threads) (87yo – technically blind – living alone in his own unit, within a gated/retirement complex) has pulled something new.

Now we shouldn’t laugh, but nobody was hurt in the making of this saga.

I goes like this: last week he was watching TV lying back in his “You beaut Lazyboy Chair” , with his feet above his heart level, (as recommended by his Doctor), when the TV went off!

Ok, as a long retired Electrician/Electronics Technician, he thought he’d investigate, but he couldn’t get out of his chair!

Oh Sheet, it’s an electric Lazyboy and we’ve had a power cut!

Well, he was only cast there for an hour or so and power was restored, so he made his escape, but I think about if he was a JAFA, and had to wait a week for the power to be restored, he could have been a tad hungry and thirsty. :)

I have a similar chair, so I wound it right back and whilst I figure I could struggle out of it, I can fully see how a lot couldn’t.

Beware all you geriatrics. ;)
