1448465 2018-04-16 01:40:00 A child would need a IRD number, if earning any interest from a bank account. So i wonder if IRD can access bank accounts for minors, because I remember about 30 years back, well off parents were diverting/hiding money in their kid's or even their pet's bank accounts to avoid tax at the time. kahawai chaser (3545)
1448466 2018-04-16 02:15:00 Wouldnt bank fees and charges have emptied that a/c eventually anyway ?
They charge for every little thing , some even charge when you make cash deposits into the a/c
?

No. There are kid accounts.
They don't charge any fees. It does earn interest albeit tiny. 1% or such?
It's one of them, with ASB.

IRD hmmm, I think that's because it's a kid account too, so no.

It's been kept, just amended now. No internet for one thing.

daddy fed it $40 to get it going again.
We gave her the spending money for tomorrows holiday.

I owe her $5 too for the weekends chores, she cooked tacos Saturday night, put bin out today, helped clean bathroom and helped do dads bed sheets this morning.

Have to wait till Tuesday to pay her....into the account.

There is a possibility mum could take her IN to a bank, I told dad that...but I think it less likely. That would involve A)Travel (they live far out) and B)Risk of fuss in a public place so I don't think so.

Of course, I did say, if it did happen, txt dad.
I suggested to dad do it joint with you and her, but he wants to leave it without net for now.

I also thought joint with me, but then I'm not a parent. they probably would, but still.....

It IS his decision mainly. I can suggest these things, I can recommend things, but ultimately it's his decision.

1448467 2018-04-17 06:19:00 Must check-up with our 4 grandchidrens' bank accounts, kicked them off when born as them and self as trustee.

Upon reaching the age of 7 they were allowed the accounts in their names, whether their parents are co-trustees still would need to be checked.

Wonder if I would be allowed to see them all, as they all had a pretty sum from us grand parents.

Thanks old PCTech !!!.

1448469 2018-04-26 00:22:00 Similar to Lurkings post ...

Nothing's really changed since I was a kid ... opened a Post Office bank account when I was at primary school when I was around 6 or 7 years old, as most of the other kids did, it was a standard practice back then. Pocket money, 1/2 for me, 1/2 in the bank, never touched it until I was 16 and needed a few shillings (Google is your friend young'uns) to take a new girlfriend out.

Now you actually had to sign a form when you opened up the account, then take the little bankbook to the P.O. and sign it in front of a teller ... I can't remember what I had to do to eventually get the money out, but they wouldn't give it to me because the signatures didn't match ...

About a week later, my dear Mother (God rest her soul) came to me and said she COULD have gotten the money out for me ... my Mother had a wicked sense of humour and had probably been laughing her head off for week. She did lend me a couple of bob to take the girlfriend out though !!
