1448478 2018-04-16 00:46:00 Either way I would have to pay someone to watch it, as we don't have Sky, and I'd prefer to pay anyone but Sky! CYaBro (73)
1448479 2018-04-16 00:49:00 "The service will offer both free and paid content to everyone, not just Spark customers"

so whats actually changed . Some will see games live , some wont . Just the same as before .
There is the rumor that we may be able to pay to watch only the games we want to see, ( rather than a monthly Sky fee ).
Who knows, perhaps a discount for Spark customers ? Perhaps free for Spark customers ?

"Fans will be able to stream games over a broadband or mobile connection via an app that can connect to TVs, laptops, tablets and phones."
that might be an issue for the less tech savvy, who are used to just pushing the 'on button' rather than install apps on PC's or TV's

All Blacks & Rugby World Cup are a business . Of course its going to cost us to see the games.

1448480 2018-04-16 00:49:00 I'm more of a sapphire guy myself.

Anyway screwed how exactly? The amount of free to air coverage will be the same, and if you want the rest you have to pay spark to stream it instead of paying sky. Either way it was never going to be free.
Rugby fans who aren't interested in streaming or can't figure it out might be screwed but there's always a way if you're really keen.

1448481 2018-04-16 00:55:00 Also this sounded like it would have an option for the tournament.....something that to this day Sky doesn't do. The olympics, was there a fanpass package for the 2 weeks? no, stuck with their stupid $99 for x months (can't remember if it's one or three). Same with the previous world cup.

Bout time they got a kick up the butt to do something.

Damn now you gone and done it -- Early advertising leak :p

Thats more than likely going to be part of some new advertising to try and get people to join Spark ;)

1448483 2018-04-16 04:47:00 I wouldn't say anyone is screwed. Surely no one was expecting the whole thing to be free to watch...? Got to pay for it somehow. This is definitely a positive move though if for no other reason than it to be a bit of a wake up call for Sky.

TVNZ on Demand is already a nice quick thing with good quality video, so they've got a good base to start with, assuming they would use it - it certainly seems better than SkyGo anyhow. It will be very interesting to see what deals come out down the track.

Edit - looks like Spark are sorting out their own platform. 4k maybe? That would be cool...
