754427 2009-03-07 10:28:00 What is your education and background in?

I would think temping or fixed term contracts in the area of administration may be ideal for some people to get the foot in the door. Some only need marginal education, mostly attitude and a indication that you can do the work. Some admin work can pay you $50k PA Gross. They may even allow you to do some financials, admin work, minutes, report wriiting etc.

I am only assuming you are after office work and this can be a macro approach to get in and then isolate what you want later ...

I did that, prior to even that I was in call centre. I am now a Analyst. 2nd job on that.

Dip. in Comp engineering, w/ 2 years non related retail work.
Wouldn't mind something in a helpdesk/call centre area...

Even dishwashing isn't so bad (I enjoy it). Grew up in a food industry background.

754429 2009-03-07 10:33:00 Project Management is not bad for experience. Not much people attracted to projects as they can be more challenging than a normal job that runs via their own calendar. Hence some people may stay at that for a long time. PM can also be shorter term contract, non perm which may allow some people to slip in easier. PM will allow people to get their hands dirty and do a bit of everything to help each other out, great for the CV and your own exposure.

Not on sure on the IT engineering side of things. But IT projects are out there. Maybe head into IT Project Management. You could end up as a tester, IT analyst / programmer / data warehouse etc... not sure if that appeals to you.

Half the problem is that they want peeps with experience. But without a job, you can't get experience and vice versa...

754431 2009-03-07 10:41:00 If you want have a look at admin roles within the IT PM sector. Go for short term contracts / temping. Nomad (952)
