| 754646 | 2009-03-09 00:45:00 | When was the last time you saw some called "Magistrate" in NZ?? They've been gone for about 30 years.. Well if we become a State of Australia, as you suggest, then we might be under the jurisdiction of the Federal Magistrates Court which was established in 1999. www.fmc.gov.au I suppose some lawyers should drop off the QC after their names too. While we are at it we may as well get rid of letters like MA, BA, DipEd and etc. We could lose all other titles like Doctor as well. At least these titles are not handed down on the death of the holder. If my Father had been a Baron or Earl when he was alive then I would have been next in line for the title even though I may have done nothing to deserve it. Show some repect which these days is sadly lacking. In my whole life I never called my Father or Mother by their first names as I knew very well what would happen if I did. |

We were governed from Aussie before and it didnt work out. I wouldn't call a judge your worship unless someone had a gun at my head thats why I used the term squire. I also call the man who changes the fluid and filter in our parts cleaner squire as well. QC I laugh when ever I hear the title because the words Queens Council dont come to mind lol. |

And if you do not behave with some level of respect in a Court you can be done for contempt of court with very little chance of an appeal. Raising an eyebrow at a sentence passed could be enough. Walking into a court in Auckland wearing a hat was enough to get me a public reprimand. This in the public gallery. I never forgot again! BTW I won't stop tilting at windmills. Don Quixote was a fictional person in any event. |

Letters have their place occasionally. As far as the title Dr is concerned I think too many people pointlessly insist on the title long after their speciality is irrelevant to their current job eg Dr Nick Smith (Landslides), Dr Lockwood Smith (Animal Science). |

QC does not means Queens Council but rather Queen's Counsel. In the event Elizabeth II dies and Charles takes over the throne I guess all the QCs will become KCs. Time to change my letterhead again I think. The man who changes the fluid has a coat of arms? I have met a person who is a member of this forum who has one. A very good chess player too. |
